Received a pair as a grad gift. Can't wait for occasions when I can wear them.

nice shoes but brown would have been a lot more versatile

Energy 05-10-2012 12:41 PM

I know it was a tough decision to go with black but I figured that black was the safer choice if I could only have one.

When I actually have to wear shoes like that for work everyday I'll be sure to add a brown pair to my rotation.

Farfetched 05-10-2012 02:41 PM

I really only wear black shoes for funerals.

Energy 05-10-2012 02:59 PM

Hmm, I'm not so good with business or work wear yet but I thought either black or brown shoes are acceptable? Or I've never heard or seen people saying that black shoes are frowned upon like wearing black suits to the office. I think that black is just safer and more conservative while brown is more sophisticated.

The reasoning behind my choice is I wanted to be more careful right now and when I get the hang of it I'd experiment more.

Nothing wrong with black, but as you said...it's the 'safe' choice. It's just a bit boring, that's all.

When I think black dress shoes...I think wedding or funeral.

Even so, my first pair of dress shoes were also black... so...... yeah

Energy 05-10-2012 04:52 PM

Boring and safe is ok.

I knew that black suits were only for formal occasions or weddings or funerals but didn't know the same was kind of true for black shoes.

kunoman1 05-10-2012 10:00 PM

God i wear black leather shoes almost everyday.. so i guess I'm biased in thinking that they are for more than just funerals and weddings
A good pair gets so nice, the leather gets so like supple

in my opinion, zippers in white (plastic) looks cheap. Zippers that are silver looks nice and elegant.

the thing thats great about brown (for shoes) is that it actually is easier to match than black, which goes against conventional thinking but its true.
if you could only have one great pair of shoes i'd say brown, but if you could have two then black isnt a bad second choice. just go out and buy a second pair :D
