| Stop Killing the Sharks
seriously stop eating shark fin soup!!!
i've been a fan of sharks since i was young and have refused to try shark fin soup b/c of what the sharks go through. shark are fished by boats towing long lines, fishing line as long as 60 miles and can be dragged for hundreds of miles just to have their fins cut and then tossed back into the water to die. these lines also catch a hell of a lot of other stuff all of which dies for no reason. imagin laying 60 miles of bear traps through a forest catching 50 bears 50 dear and 100 other creatures. that would never be allowed, so why is long lining?
-17 countires have banned shark finning, canada is NOT one of them. canadian waters are home to as many as 18 different species of shark.
-did you know shark fin is tastless and used for texture only and then flavoured with pork or chicken stock?
-the mith is that eating shark fin will keep you healty and bring you luck because "sharks don't get sick", but sharks are known to die of cancer and are more toxic now then ever before b/c of the large amounts of mercury and other toxins we are dumping into the ocean.
-shark fin soup has grown in popularity ten fold in the last 20 years b/c more and more people are taking sharks for granted and shark fin soup has become a staple at asian weddings.
-did you know they cut all the fins off a shark and then toss them back into the water where they survive hours and sometimes days...
-and this isn't some bs peta crap. i'm no vegetarian but seriously no one is doing anything about the declining shark population. it's not like a cow ehere there are millions being bread every year for the purpose of having a burger or a steak.

This has been brought up so many times. You can impose bans, laws, but at the end of the day, it's part of a long standing culture delicacy and no one will stop until there aren't any sharks left to harvest from. Human nature.

I've had shark fin soup on countless occasions and yes it is the most wasteful/offensive food out there. The remaining 99% of the shark is completely wasted. It doesn't really add much flavour either.
I know i sound hypocritical cause I do have it quite often, but only because whoever I'm going to dinner with orders it.

Whats so great about sharks...ever seen jaws...they'll fuck ya up...human fetus is far more "offensive".....

The killing of sharks is part of the reason why the giant octopus are taking over the water as their natural predators (the sharks) are gone.
Having said that, I just had a bowl of shark fin soup a couple days ago.
