Abottsford Airshow So, who wants to go? |
I'd love to... dunno if the budget will allow tho. What weekend does it go this year? |
August 7~9. |
I'm most likely going on August 9th i believe if my schedule works out how i think. |
I'm going on the 9th. I will be taking the 5DmkII & 500mm if I can. |
Very nice! For the airshow application, would you bring a crop and a 400mm or full frame? I was thinking a wide angle for static planes, and tele. I love the view-finder on the full frame with the 400, although the tracking ability of the 40D is better than the 5D. |
Shit, is the 5DmkII that bad? Maybe I'll bring the 1DsmkIII or maybe I'll bring the Nikon D700 & 500mm f4. |
What setup should i take to the airshow? I have 5DII 40D, a 400mm, a 70-200mm. Which setup for in-flight? crop or full frame + 400? I was gonna go with the 5d + 17-40mm for static displays. :) Senna please don't bring the Canon 500mm. If i see you i might just have to pick one up. You have no clue how bad i've been lusting over that lens. and a 1.4x. Yum! |
I'd say slap the 70-200 on the 40D and put the 400mm on the 5DmkII. The use the 5D + 17-40 for the static displays. Are you going on Sunday? I'll be in the reserved seating area with workmates. |
I've thought about going in the better seating myself to get a great view of everything, including taking off and landing. I love the photo's of the planes with their jet wash coming off the back. I'll have to look into that. :) Thanks for the advice! |
Boot, you going Saturday or Sunday? Anyone else going? Past airshow threads: http://www.revscene.net/forums/abbot...7-t486713.html http://www.revscene.net/forums/abbot...8-t541415.html |
i'm going tomorrow. got some corporate chalet tickets. will be my first air show lol. don't got the range for shooting tho... so will just most likely try and take some and crop! how do u guys go about shooting these? fast shutter speed or pan? |
Take at least a 200mm lens. With propeller driven aircraft, use a slower shutter speed of around 1/125 to blur the props....frozen props on a plane look wrong. With jets, I usually switch to aperture priority and shoot at f8. Remember to meter the planes, not the sky, unless you want to get some cool silhouette photos. I'm going Sunday for sure. |

I went on Saturday. The show this year was great. I only wish I had a ultra zoom.. heck even a real zoom lens. All I had was my kit 17-85 :(. |
I heard the cloud cover was really low on Friday and Saturday. It got warm and sunny today. The Snowbirds flew their regular routine, instead of their low cloud routine. :) |
