Costco I believe has a cheaper one,
Try craigslist, I bought mine used last year for $200 it's a toyotomi and it's excellent, bought a 2nd one today at future shop for $450 before taxes, and its 12000 btu so good enough for a decent sized room.

I would actually pay a little extra and get a mid end unit instead of a cheap one.

On a related note, i'm looking to get some window fans ( the ones that can be intake or exhaust ?? ) to set up some good circulation. Any idea if these would be in stock and which one to look for? TIA!

For the portable ones, do you just stick the exhaust hoses out the window?
