In any situation where they use the riot squad everyone the riot squad touches be commiting an arrestable offense. They arn't causing property damage or anything seroius other than blocking a few streets.

Since the police "can't arrest everyone" etc, can't they call in the riot squad or something? Hose these fuckers down and peg them with some rubber bullets, tasers, pepper bags, etc?

Stay out of the downtown core every last Friday of the month and get more of a hate on for cyclists? Eventually they'll piss enough people off where either a) The mayor will get turfed and something will be done by the new mayor. b) Some citizen (probably nobody on this site) will take the law into his hands, seriously hurt or kill a cyclist or two and something will be done.

Shit like this has a way of sorting itself out.

They interviewed a bunch of massholes on the news, most of them just said it was "fun" to participate in this garbage.

Also, the VPD was said to had actually tried arranging a meeting with the organizers of the CM. They asked for information like their route so the city could basically accommodate them and motorists could be pre-warned to avoid the area. The CM organizers refused the meeting.

But they apply to people who work in a professional environment and can't work with helmet hair, in a soaked suit, while reeking of sweat. If you work at the bottle depot or something then maybe.

many of them are breaking several laws, riding without a helmet, blowing red lights, obstructing traffic, verbally abusing drivers, etc. So I can do all of these on a normal day and not get arrested? cool.

non-sissy really? What a ridiculous thing to say...

as for the reasons not being good. How are they not good? They apply to almost everyone who isn't biking to work. It's not about being a sissy, it's about what's convenient and what's practical. Perhaps you could tell me what would be good reasons? Or would you say there's NO good reason and that everyone should be able to substitute driving with biking and have no problems?

maybe you don't care what you look like at work, but a lot of people have jobs that require them to dress/look a certain way.

also, I can list off dozens of reasons why one wouldn't want to bike to work, but what's the point in doing that. I figure you'd see what I was getting at (regards to inconvenience, impracticality, dress code at work, looking professional at work without stinking of sweat etc.) and there'd be no need to go on about it.

How is this not a good reason? Not everyone does physical labor work.
If you come in to an office all sweaty and smelly everyday, you will be fired.

And 95% of the offices here won't come with a shower room, or at least one an average employee can use.

I don't get it, why wouldn't the police keeps on ticketing these people?
Yes, they can't ticket everyone, but they can hand out as much ticket as they could. It will be like a "all you can ticket" feast.
Put 30 cops there, and start giving tickets to these riders non-stop. Each cop can probably hand out one ticket every 5-10mins, and each ticket being $50-$100, each cop can help the city bring in approx. $600/hr revenue

When a group of 30 cars are caught racing on the street, the cops can't pull over all of them too, but it will still pull over and ticket as many as he or she could instead of letting them all go. Why should it be different for the cyclist?

^ Because there are more hippies than streetracers in this city, and they want to stay elected.

I admit, if my buddies and I were to join CM, I'd really be doing it as "something to do" and to make some noise and yell at random people for fun. Personally I couldn't care less about increasing awareness about bicycles (imo the city's already done a good enough job with all those bike paths crisscrossing the city), and I'm sure a sizeable chunk of the crowd are only there to make a scene.

If they criminalized CM, watch 80% of the crowds disappear.

i left third beach at around 830 pm and they were rolling through stanley park at the time. i didnt realize what was happening until i plowed right into them. weaving in and out and scaring some to death i made my way to the left turn that leads to georgia and almost hitting the 3 fuckheads that were blocking the opposite turning lane, escaped.

what a bunch of looneys.

and the popo didnt do anything to them, damn had this shit happened in mother russia - they'd jam the batons in the cyclists wheels and then haul them off, bleeding, to jail.

I totally agree, Amen! I wouldn't maybe use the word sissy though, but definitely very lazy! don't want to generalize and say we should all bike because some individuals just cannot work without a car. But if you're giving us a bs excuse like; it's easier, just more covient, its too hot outside, I need ac, don't feel like getting an extra 30 minutes before work. Our society is just lazy, we take the word convience for granted. Stop making excuses / procrastinating and do something outside your comfort zone.

bs excuse?
yeah you're right...because it should be normal to expect your employees to arrive all sweaty, soaked, or tired/winded at 8am in the morning.

bike if you must, all the power to you. No need to patronize people who would rather drive/bus to avoid all that hassle.

How about living closer to your job so you don't get so sweaty getting to work?
It's too expensive to live in a 5 bedroom 3 bathroom house downtown? So people live in Langley and work downtown. The 'hippies' don't think it's fair that they have to breathe your fumes every day so you can maintain your fancy lifestyle by working your nice job downtown and living 50kms away.

Boo fucking hoo- Cry me a river won't you. Freaking people have so much time to complain about anything and everything.

Honestly, who the fuck cares what "fair" is. Being "fair" cripples societal advancements.

Look at fucking bums and chugs. Hippies think it's "fair" that hard-working people get taxed like no tomorrow so they can give these people free money to be fucking lazy bastards. If it were up to me, I'd send these bums to asia where they can experience what hell truly is.

What these Critical Mass participants are doing isn't to improve biking conditions in downtown- they're just using that as an excuse to break the law without getting repercussions. If they wanted to actually improve biking conditions, there's about 10,000 other ways to go about it w/o the need to piss other people off. Critical Manners will probably accomplish this goal more effectively than Critical Mass bastards will ever dream of.

What's sad is the government is allowing this under the pretense that "oh- there's no one to arrest coz we don't know who's organizing it."

So in short, in Vancouver, a huge group of people can break the law as long as the organizer cannot be traced. Fucking great.

These bastards need to be piked down like Arcadian soldiers. Let there be a Critical Massacre.

The problem with retaliating against these fuckers is that there aren't enough people actually dedicated to stopping them. I mean hippies are always dedicated to a particular cause but norms always have other more important shit to do. As much as i'd love to set up a defensive line of people armed with water balloons, rocks, and airsoft guns near a major bottlenecked area, it won't happen.

Or CAN one person stop an army? An army of bicycle riders.

Edit* Anyone planning on doing this, aim for their shins. You can't peddle without your shins.
