Okay, so I tried the Viet sub at Tung Hing Dong Khanh on Kingsway. Here is my overall review:

1. They bake their own bread - French baguette style
2. The deli meats they use are of good quality. It's actual meat, not super processed.
3. The jalapenos they use are striking hot unlike other places where they de-seed the jalapenos.
4. The sub itself is quite huge.
5. I'm not chugging down a litre of water thanks to MSG.

Verdict - for $2.75, it's actually pretty good and I favour the style of sub compared to the famous "Mr. Baguette" in SoCal. Overall, pretty filling and satisfying. Downside to all of this is the parking. It sucks. You can park in their lot or on the street but finding parking is a PITA. I would not go out of my way to go there for the life of me. Growing up in Chinatown, my family went to Ba Le on Main for Viet subs so in comparison, they're very different styles in my opinion. I prefer a good French baguette over a smaller loaf of bread and MSG induced deli meats.

Bonka - awesome suggestion. You sir, are a man who knows true, good food.

Thanks dukes and bonka, I'm gonna go next week. I haven't tried Au Petit either, but I've had Ba Le.

Ba Le's subs are average at best. I don't understand why so many people like it.

Agreed. Once my mom brought one home and when I opened it there was nothing but cucumber, carrot/radish and cilantro, no lie. I was like wtf and my mom actually drove back (about 5 minutes) to get it remade. Turns out the person who was making it wasn't even paying attention (guess my mother wasn't either).

I never had a problem with either the one at Kingsway and fraser or the one on Main st in Chinatown

I tried that Tiem Banh Dong Khanh today and it's really good with the pate. Had 2 of them. Yum.

Most satisfying one I've had is the Grilled Pork Sub at CAMBIE/BROADWAY PHO (aka Pho Kim "purple neons" 24hrs).

It's good cuz they toast the bun and the Nammer lady who is there all the time makes them really good when they actually have bread in stock.

I've tried going to Tung Hing Dong Khanh yesterday but they were sold out :(
