Tend to agree with invisiblesoul.
Wouldn't it be a safer comparison, saying like KHL and the NHL, different rules, same type of game. But in terms of quality NHL > KHL.
In essence, NFL > CFL because of similiar reasoning.

In essence, NFL > CFL because of similiar reasoning. | I'm not saying that the AHL-NHL comparison is a perfect one... but it gets the point across. The CFL is a league where, in general, players who aren't good enough for the NFL play. The AHL is a league where, in general, players who aren't good enough for the NHL play. That's all I was trying to express.
Just to recap, this all stems from the comment that carisear made implying that the BC Lions would have lost to the worst teams in the NFL the way they played yesterday... implying that normally, the BC Lions are better than some NFL teams. I refuse to believe that this is true.
I'm saying that there is no way the skill level of a CFL team is anywhere close to that of ANY NFL team.
I found an old debate about CFL vs NFL... most of the arguments are the same as here: http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=97566 |

I love my football, probably even more then hockey and I'm a HUGE hockey fan. I grew up with CFL, used to go to all the Rider games with my dad when we lived there. I still love both games but the more and more I watch NFL the more it's becoming my favorite sports league. I think you guys are making to much out of the comment, the Browns and the Det Lions are the armpit of the NFL. He was just saying even as armpit teams they'd still whoop the BC Lions playing with there rules which is true. I hate these debates, both games are great in there own way.
Getting back to the CFL the Riders are going to have a hell of a time making a game out of it but here's to hoping they pull off the upset. I can guarantee that it will be closer then 38 points, you can take that to the bank.

He was just saying even as armpit teams they'd still whoop the BC Lions playing with there rules which is true. | Nothing to do with "relative player talent" and everything to do with the different rules - NFL players would still go for third and long because they'd be expecting a fourth down.
Neither league or style has a lock on talent - yes, there are CFL players who couldn't make it in the NFL. There are also NFL players - and coaches, for that matter - who couldn't cut it in the CFL.
And there are are those who excelled at both - Doug Flutie anyone? Let's not forget, the holder of SEVERAL major-league points records - football or otherwise - is a CFL player AND career Lion... perhaps you've heard of him, Lui Passaglia? You know, the original "Luuuuuuuuuuuuu!"
It's not just different rules, it's different styles of play. NFL play is a lot more rigid, more stick-to-the-playbook; CFL with its much wider field allows for (and encourages) a lot more "freestyle" play. One of the problems many CFLers have had trying out in the NFL isn't the lack of talent, but the difficulty in playing lock-step to the playbook. Same goes the other way, and it can be overcome with time... problem is, the NFL doesn't allow players the time to adjust; there are so many other roid-monkey college players ready to step up, who've been brought up in that style of play. | Your statement could be true. Problem is, to be more specific, the VAST MAJORITY of CFL players couldn't make it to the NFL. Also, I have no doubt that the VAST MAJORITY of NFL players would have absolutely no problem playing in the CFL. Quote:
And there are are those who excelled at both - Doug Flutie anyone?
| There have been a few (and the keyword is FEW) players that played in the CFL and then moved on to the NFL and had real success. But the total number could probably be counted on one hand. But on the other hand, probably 90% or more NFL players would EASILY be successful in the CFL. Quote:
Let's not forget, the holder of SEVERAL major-league points records - football or otherwise - is a CFL player AND career Lion... perhaps you've heard of him, Lui Passaglia? You know, the original "Luuuuuuuuuuuuu!"
| I would not be surprised if he could have had decent success playing in the NFL... but it's not like there aren't kickers in the NFL that aren't better than him. His longevity is commendable, but the title of holding several "major-league points records" is a little hollow.
Do you not think any of Tom Brady, Brett Favre, the Manning brothers, etc. would do well in the CFL? For that matter, if any one of them played their entire career in the CFL, what do you think their chances are that they would have many or most of the records? I think the chances are pretty high.
Bottom line is while there does exist some differences between the CFL and NFL games, the fundamentals are still similar enough, that I am fully confident that the vast majority of NFL players would have no problem with not just playing in the CFL, but excelling in the CFL. However, I am also equally confident that the vast majority of CFL players would simply not be able to compete at a satisfactory level in the NFL, nevermind excelling there.

I never made any claims that one game is a better product than the other. All I'm saying that terms of skill, there shouldn't even be a debate. NFL has the more skilled players by FAR, and consequently, their teams are much better, to the extent that even the worst NFL team should still be significantly better than any CFL team.

and i personally believe cfl is a greater game, while nfl has better players, and infinitely better marketing. they are different games though so a 'good' player just won't automatically be good in both leagues.
anyways, if it was montreal vs calgary, i would've bet on calgary. But because it's the riders, montreal will win. not by 38, but by 10+.

theyre 2 different types of games. its like comparing the nfl to rugby. looks similar but its really not. who compares the patriots against the all blacks. like honestly. its a retarded argument. nfl isnt a better game by any means. ricky williams came up here with the argos. he never did anything here. lol

You are being a pure nuthugger if you are denying the fact that the NFL does not have better atheletes than the CFL.
Give me a friggin break, the talent pool the NFL has to pull from far outweighs the CFL. Those same NFL players if they were brought into the CFL game would do far better than the current players we have in the league.

If only they played/taught CFL rules football in schools in the US, *THEN* you'd see some good football

Most Canadian schools teach four-down ball, although some of the other rules are unique to school sports.

So sad.............. I'd hate to be the guy who screwed up. When I saw the ball go wide, I thought it was over until all those flags went flying.
I was hoping for a green day.

Q: How many Roughriders does it take to win the Grey Cup?

I'm kind of glad Montreal won the Grey Cup.
If they had lost, they would have left the CFL and started their own league.
Bob Sagget! ........ Frenchies.

2009 season is over, but perhaps a mod will change this to just "BC Lions thread".
Anyway, I think I'll go see a couple of games at the temporary site. Perhaps get tickets to the cheap seats just for the hell of it.
I'm kind of excited about the outdoor venue. Anyone else planning on taking in some games this upcoming season? I don't even know what kind of team we are going to have this season.

I am hoping to go with some friends, just for the atmosphere of an outdoor football game.
I wanna catch either Montreal or Calgary, but both of their games that I am free for are Friday nights, which is a bit of a rush going down after work.
