911fanatic vs Acura TSX

This job came to me via referral from a client who's S-line A4 we had just done. As with the A4, this client was moving into the US and the car had to have all traces of Canadian soil removed from the car. The car was booked in for a major cleaning and single stage polish over two days.

Engine and all jambs were cleaned with AG Powermax3
Undercarriage and all inner fenders cleaned with AG Powermax3 as well
Tires and wheels were cleaned with AG Custom Wheel Cleaner
Car was washed with Gloss it shampoo and Raceglaze washmitt
Clay of choice today was Bilt Hamber regular as I knew I was going to be polishing so just wanted to get the paint cleaned as quickly as possible.
Car was polished with Menz Power Finish and 85RD on green and black LC CCS pads respectively
LSP today would be DG 601 bonding agent followed by 105 and 111
Glass was cleaned with AG Fast Glass and treated with Rain Science Rain Clear
Interior was washed down with AG Interior Shampoo and leather treated with DG Leather Conditioner
Wheels were sealed with DG 105 and tires dressed with GI Tire Gloss

At first glance the car looked very clean and defect free, even in the direct sun but this fantasy would not last.

The wheels were in very good condition
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...X/DSCF0112.jpg

As was the interior. A little crud in her welts but nothing serious.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...X/DSCF0113.jpg

Typical build up in the jambs and fuel filler door.

http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...X/DSCF0117.jpg

Even the trunk release button was filthy and had to be scrubbed down with 203 on a MF to get rid of the build up.

Engine was dirty but mostly just accumulated dust. After shampooing the engine was left clean with no dressing this time.

A couple of pics of the shock tower mounts after cleaning. These required a couple of hits to get rid of all accumulated dirt.

Inner fenders after AG Powermax3 and a good scrubbing. These were gone over one more time as drying showed a bit of dirt left after the first scrubbing.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...X/DSCF0135.jpg

http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...X/DSCF0136.jpg

As you can see, once the side was jacked up, it was easy to get at the inner fenders and suspension for cleaning.

http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...X/DSCF0138.jpg

http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...X/DSCF0139.jpg

As earlier stated, after washing with GI shampoo and a healthy dose of Tropicare Citrus Wash ( thanks Dust to Glory), everything the last detailer has used was stripped and this is what we found.

Why you don't use a sharp implement to remove badges. Sadly, we hadn't the time to get rid of all of this. Sanding would have been required.

Wheels got DG 105 and tires got GI Tire Gloss applied with a foam applicator - not sprayed.

Exhaust tips wer covered in road tar so were left to soak in Tardis for a bit and then polished with Autosol and finally DG metal polish.

Love this detail Ken, great turn around. We need to find you a tripod though so you can take pictures with less noise! But in all seriousness great detail, loving the idea of the license plate covers too

I don't know what happened. Usually my outdoor pics are mint. Oh well. Just picked up a new Nikon D60 today with a 16-85 lens so my pics should improve dramatically.

roastpuff 08-10-2009 09:19 PM

Nice, new camera. But you went Nikon instead of Canon! :p

!Yaminashi 08-10-2009 09:46 PM

Your work never fails to leave me speechless man..I wish I had the time and all the products to get a full out detail job done on mine once a year at least..
I love this picture

Only reason being, and I did look at Canon, was that I have seen actual pictures by guys online using the D60. With Canon, I didn't have anything to base an opinion on.

Supafly 08-11-2009 06:25 AM

nice, a NIKON...soon, you will get a new passion for photography and that D60 will turn into a D90....trust me.

bcty 08-11-2009 08:29 AM

Great job. I just dont understand how "professional" detailers can leave all those trails and swirls and go home thinking they did a good job. Great job as usual Ken.

Or a D300... MUAHAHAH.

And various assorted lenses, of course. ;) Ken's going to have to take on more detailing jobs to pay for all the goodies.

ryugeeh 08-11-2009 03:00 PM

oh man that is incredible. looks great

btw what is LSP stand for?

roastpuff 08-11-2009 03:29 PM

Last Step Protectant, I think. Basically the last layer of product you put on as a protective coat.

jing 08-11-2009 05:03 PM

Megan coilovers

Could've sworn I saw this car the other day and thought it looked pretty clean. Great job as usual.

Looked at the D90 when I bought this. Just couldn't part with the extra cash - yet.

Get a Tokina 11-16DX f2.8 ultra-wideangle lens... that is one nice lens.

Also get a macro lens so that you can take close-up details of those little nook and crannies once they're super clean! :haha:

ilvtofu 08-15-2009 11:43 AM

Can you recommend a good polish for my car, it's white and isn't an OEM paintjob, and its not a particularly tough clearcoat, would the gloss it products you carry be better?

Mugen EvOlutioN 08-15-2009 12:27 PM

sick job, how much would that wash and wax package cost?

That was a wash, clay single stage polish, and sealant with interior detail. Two full days $595

syee 08-15-2009 10:11 PM

Looks great! I bet the soft Acura paint made your job a whole lot easier too. ;)

Planning to get off my lazy ass tomorrow and give my TSX a nice lil polish and wax tomorrow too. This post gave me a bit of motivation to do it. :)

Preemo 08-17-2009 02:48 PM

josel_atr 08-25-2009 08:11 PM
