I say 8/10. The visuals were obviously amazing but the movie fell short at the story. There was waaayy too much hype for this movie! But my parents really liked it. Posted via RS Mobile |

Is it still being sold out as of now? I was there in Richmond and they had signs the other day saying all sold out for the day! Also, how much space is there on those imax theaters? The regular theaters are too cramped for me. |
Watched it yesterday at SilverCity and was happy that the lineup was not bad at all. Imax was sold out for the entire day to no surprise. Got there at 2:50pm for the 3:30pm Digital 3D show and was probably about 40th in line by the time we got our tickets. Lined up for 10 mins then went in and waited another 20. All and all a short wait. In terms of the movie I won`t go into detail but overall I thought it was decent and would give it a solid 3.5-4 stars out of 5. |
yea i watched the digital 3d and i was still captivated. now i'm probably going to see this a 2nd time in imax so i can compare the two. i can't see how someone can hate this movie. even if the plot was predictable, the 1st half of the movie was so visually appealing that it's still enjoyable. imax 3d was sold out at 1100pm riverport on a wednesday night... |
Watched it tonight at Riverport Silvercity. 3D effects, MUCH improved over previous "3d" films, was used throughout the movie so yes the glasses stay on the entire time (good thing they're disposable and therefore more sanitary). Great CGI, and I mean great, the visuals in this movie were absolutely.. well, there's no word to express it. Avatars looked very real, as in people with body paint. Solid story line, not mind blowing but adequate. However... Spoiler! |
crap, still sold out today. |
it's really that good that tickets are still sold out? maybe i'll take the time out to watch it |
I have seen it 3 times on Imax 3d.. Each time i see something i missed the times before.. Love it.. and Love the 3D.. |
watched it at silvercity riverport on tues night, holy!, there was still line up definitely digged the 3d effects.. i liked it.. better than i expected.. i kept the 3d glasses though, thinking they will release the 3d version of Avatar on torrents? will it have the same effect if it did? |
i watched this on xmas day with friends. at first we were going to watch the 6:30pm one but it was sold out (we arived before 5:15pm). i actually didn't know what i was going to watch (hadn't not paid attention to all the hype). waited around 4 hrs (killed 2 hrs doing whatever, 2 hrs lining up to get good seats) to watch the 10:30pm show and i kept saying to my friends "this better be worth this friggin wait". All i can say is i'm very glad i waited. excellent movie and like Ulic said, it's not all about the story itself. the visuals definitely made the movie 10x better, overall i gave it a 9.5/10. the only thing i didn't like about the 3d were some of the awkward camera movements that would easily make some people motion sick. some of the focus was not logical (ie, foreground objects being blurry while characters faces are in clear focus). yes, i realise the point is to bring focus to what's going on, but if you want it to be a life like experience, it just doesn't make sense. neither did the shots where the camera is moving backwards. |
watched it a few days ago. graphics were really good (eye-openingly so). the 3D was unnecessary and a bit distracting at times (i think i would have enjoyed the graphics more without it). plotline = dances with wolves (minus the historically accurate inevitability at the end). i'd give it 7.5/10. to me, in a movie, plotline > graphics (however impressive they may be). |
Watched the 10:15pm showing yesterday at Metro Silvercity. It was packed, lined up 1.5 hours before showtime and got awesome seats. Overall, i thought it was a good movie. I would pay to watch it again with other friends. I agree that the plot of the movie was obvious but i was more into the graphics then anything else. Spoiler! |
Avatar just made over 1 billion dollars in the last 16 days. That's quite a triumph! |
Although this movie was cliche and predictable, and the acting wasn't at par at times, it wasn't hard to be immersed in the storyline. It was just too epic. |
Dammit, wish I read this page before going to Riverport yesterday. It was still all sold out (for IMAX). The entire day. :( |
IMax at SilverCity Riverport still sold out during weekend. I purchased my tickets 2 days in advances for the morning show on Sunday I went there 45 mins earlier - no wait, no line up Graphic was awesome, plot was alright. People did getting motion sickness. The lady sat beside me only last 30mins & she ran outside to washroom & never return... I hope she was okay. |

Dang, I wanna watch it in IMAX3D but my wife will probably get sick... |
how much are tickets for imax versus 3D? |
imax 3d in langley is 16.99 i believe |
^ I'd gladly pay for that price compared to the lousy Garbage Digital 3D they are offering. That alone cost 14.99. |
Went to the Langley Imax and sold out. Got there at 7:00 to buy the 10:30 and was sold out. Strike 2 for me now. Think I'lll wait for a month before trying this again. |
I am pretty sure blockbuster makers around the world going "fuck" the moment they saw Avatar in 3D. I am looking forward to Transformers 3 and Ironman 3 in 3D in the next few years. |
