it's weird because i saw the guy who works there and he is able to climb it every single time and grab the nano!! it looks easy! I got a feeling it has to do with the guy 'helping' you and 'supporting' you by holding onto the bottom for the first few steps and once he let go..you fall...

No, I don't think it has anything to do with the guy holding the bottom.

This is one of those things where if you practice enough, you'll get it and from there on in it'll be doable every single time. But you'll never be able to get it the first few times because your body hasn't learned to deal with it yet.

I'm sure technique does help though... and staying really low might be ideal.

No, the game has horizontal plates that move back and forth. The plates are full of coins. The player inserts coins and the machine flips or shoots them up high and they end up on one of the plates. When enough coins accumulate, they push others to fall down and pile up on the lowest plate that doesn't move. Eventually those get pushed off into the chute that the coins go down (to the player).

You mean these things, right? http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...deoID=22029453

They actually have a few of these at the Playland booth where the Skeeball is... but the stupid thing is no longer do they pay out quarters when they fall over the edge! You just get a few tickets that are pretty much worthless...

4-Ball at PNE is REALLY hard. Even if you can do it at the pool hall, you'll have a lot tougher time doing it at the PNE tables.

The main difference is that the corners are WAY tougher.

At pool halls, the corner mouths can fit two balls wide. PNE's can only fit maybe 1.5 at most.

At pool halls, the corner mouths sides are flat. Even if the ball is slightly off, it'll bank in. PNE's are rounded like snooker tables. It'll reject any ball that doesn't go straight in. I'm not even sure it's possible to do a rail shot on those tables.

Aside from that, the equipment is probaby pretty suspect too... like the cues might not shoot very true.

Spent $20 on Crossbow and got raped on it...The ones on the right are pretty off, I didn't try the middle but I tried the left two, Both of them were pretty off IMO and it was different each time the person clocked the arrow. Walked away with nothing...how sad :(

do the girls still wear slutty makeup and short-shorts to try to entice you to play?

The rails are also snooker-style - they're L shaped not V.

The other problem with this game (not so much here but blatantly obvious at the Cgy. Stampede) is that they place the tables so close together, that it's almost impossible to get an accurate shot when you're close to the side rail, shooting to the other side.

This one pissed me off. One time I put in coins and it took about 30 seconds or maybe a bit longer for the coins to finally get pushed. A delayed chain of events. But by then, the slot where coins come out got closed. A mechanism that occurs to prevent coins from falling by accident when no one is acutally there playing. I didn't know of this mechanism. But I guess if you suddenly stop putting coins in for 30 seconds, that slot will close up. Got pissed, cause by the sound of it, I think probably at least 10 coins would have came out.

Make sure the guy at that ladder climb game isn't helping you stablize the ladder when you begin. The last time I went, I saw this happening. The guy would hold the ladder in the beginning, kinda of like helping you get on it. But what he's really doing is stablizing it for you, until you are somewhere 1/4 up, then let go. Your body, through the first 1/4 climbing would think you got it stabled on your own, but when the guy suddenly lets go, you're balance is gonna get fked up and you'll fall.

I hear they have bottle-up again but instead of the board on an angle, it's a flat board. Gonna play that the next time I go. I used to work that game haha.

flawless 08-25-2009 02:02 AM

Also, for crossbow, it depends on how the operator 'sets' the bow, although they aren't 100% accurate. You can ask the operator to set it yourself. If you do that, you can 'test' the site out by firing a couple shots to see where it hits and adjust your shot accordingly.

I haven't been to the PNE this year, so I don't know if the game is still around. It's the game where you use a BB gun rifle and shoot this piece of paper with a star until no part of the star is left. I'm not a pro at it (only won twice) but here is my advice:

Use the bullets slowly in the beginning. Shoot it once, adjust the aim, and shoot again. When you know where you're shooting, shoot the outer edge of the star first. After the edge is pretty much torn, fire in rounds of 2-4 to tear the whole star right off! Make sure to save some rounds in case there are bits of the star's corners left.

That's them........ too bad. They were like a big hit last year....... or was that the year before? I hear they have them in Vegas and the prizes are bigger as in tokens for expensive prizes.

that ladder one looks pretty cool. I havent been to the pne in ages. Might go check that out

Breaking news. The trend this year for slutty girls is to wear short skirts and no panties at all. Go check it out, ZhangFei.

Oh wait........... I misread your post. I'm talking about the girls in the crowd.

I played that game when I was at the Circus Circus arcade many years ago before I was of age to gamble in the states. I spent 50usd just on that game :lol. Gambling for kids....

More tips!

I'm going this weekend and this thread is awesome

InvisibleSoul 08-25-2009 10:39 AM

If you need a GUARANTEED prize, then the birthday game is the way to go. I believe there are 13 possible outcomes, so if you cover every single one with $2, it'll cost you $26 but you'll be guaranteed to win. :p

Actually, there's another similar game that might be better... it's the first time I've seen it. The game is run by the carnies that are only there during the fair. They have a giant spinning wheel with 10 different colours, and you toss a ball in a net above it where it will then fall onto the wheel and land in a hole within a colour.

I played that one and fluked out and managed to win a banana monkey for the fiance with one shot. :p

Chairman Kaga 08-25-2009 10:48 AM

Haven't been to playland in years...

What's the best game in terms of money -> prize ratio?

I remember playing those games where you'd put down $5 and when you win all you get is some piece of shit dinky ass stuffy from a trash can they have hidden under the tables

On the lower ledge, there are 2 openings, one on each side so that the coins that run down the edge go down these openings and go back to the guy operating the machines.

Last year, the wife and I went on a cruise and they had 2 of these machines with some special prizes including $5 chips and a $50 stack of ones. Needless to say, the guy who won the $50 spent about $200 in quarters to get it. That's when we learned first hand about the openings on the side that do not let you win the money.

I won at that game once. On the break, I went with power and sunk the 2 side balls. Then I took my time to get the remaining 2 balls. I think it was more of a fluke than anything else.

Mr.HappySilp 08-25-2009 11:07 AM

for the bastetball game the hopp is is not round is in a ova shape so is harder to win.

There is also a game where u ride a bike from one side to another. The bilke is pretty busted up so do not use it to balance or change direction. U have to use your body to do that.

There is another game where u use a fishing rod and try to get a coke bottle up(it was lay flat). The trick is that when u start to get the bottle up u have to go in a almost constant speed. if you don't the bottle will either roll over and fall back down. Also near the end when the bottle is almost straight up try to speed up a little.

sexyaccord 08-25-2009 11:45 AM

the basketball game is the best one I found.
the hoops are oval, make sure you see someone sink a basket firt before you choose that hoop though.

use to win them almost every year. believe it was 2 bucks to get 2 shots in a row to win.
deal with the guy working there, and say $5 per shot, if i get one shot in, i get the prize. more often than not he'll allow it

I didn't see that there this year, but maybe I just missed it.

But it's not that the bike is "busted up", it's that the steering is reversed. If you turn right, the wheel will turn left... so obviously everything you've learned from riding a bike gets thrown out the window, and your body will have no idea how to react.

This is another one of those games where if you've practiced it enough times, it'll be a piece of cake and you'll be able to do it EVERYTIME afterwards... but if you're doing it for the first time, it's pretty much impossible.

I played this when my family took a trip to California last year, they have it at the boardwalk in Santa Cruz. Not sure if the whole mechanism is the same as the PNE one, but the one I used was full automatic. I tried to spray in the middle of the star, but I would up missing a few corners of red in the end.
