For Chinese people, especially adults, there is no reason to leave Richmond. Groceries are there, ample restaurants, etc.

Well it does have the best Asian Restaurants in the Lower Mainland...and I live in Vancouver. :(

gnat. 08-26-2009 11:42 AM

me and my friends drive out to random places all the time! hella fun.
i find that people who are a little bit more adventurous and likes to drive are keen on heading out of richmond, or that little town that they live in.
while everyone else drive because they have to do errands, and just prefer not to go anywhere or do anything if they don't have to.

richmond drivers are NOT ALL bad. but we do have most of the asian c-lai drivers. because richmond has everything and it's small!
but not everyone's a bad driver here. tyvm

It's when you live in Richmond, and think it's a major pain in the ass to go anywhere that requires you to take a bridge, yet you'd gladly take the same amount of time to drive from East Richmond to Steveston.

For instance, you see a car on Craigslist you wanna check out but you find out it's in Burnaby and you kinda balk at contacting them. But then you find a similar car located at the opposite side of Richmond and would take 20 minutes to drive to, and happily shoot them off an email.

Just curious...

On the flip side:
All my NON-Richmond friends don't believe me when I tell them it's a 15min drive from my house to the closest birdge. They all think Richmond is so small.

Also:
I recently discovered that one of my friends from Richmond has such a bad case of the "richmond bubble", he didn't know how to pump his own gas when we drove to the US together :(

YOUR FRIEND AND I *throws in Russell Peters joke*

I guess it's the lifestyle they live. If they're FOB, they stay in Richmond, and make the occasional trip to Downtown for shopping and Fabric/Boss.

Also, 98% of the drivers in Richmond are BAD DRIVERS. Stupid kids with 335i or C300 can't drive for shit. Stupid C-Lais with Camry or X5 can't drive for shit. They run stop signs, cut off other traffic, can't follow the lines on the road, and don't know how to turn into the correct lane.

Most nights/weekends I don't go further than 13 blocks from home (I live 13 blocks from Kits beach) cause:

within 6 blocks there are 4 sushi and several restaurants, 2 pubs, a liquor store, a movie store, 2 grocery stores, London Drugs, Fitness World, Tim Hortons and other coffee shops, a huge park, bowling, ...

within 13 blocks there are 2 movie theatres, beach, pool, shopping, ...

My car has 6000kms on it in 10 months living here. There are lots of great things to do that require driving, yet its not like I climb grouse, blade Stanley park, PNE, nightmarket, VAG, ... every week.
I've been here 10 months and haven't seen Surrey, MR, PoCo, Coq, NW, ... cause there's no need, what is there in those cities that I don't have within 13 blocks of my condo?

There's a few things to do in surrey. One of them is Painball. Panthers paintball to be precise. Although they're currently having construction on the highway so there will be a jam.

OP's mother usually operates out of a garden city highrise 10th floor. Just dial 5525 on the intercom and ask for the 5 hole thursday night special

I always thought it was a Honger phenomenon where Hongers don't leave Richmond not because of the distance, but more because of the "perceived" lack of Honger places to go elsewhere.

drunkrussian 08-26-2009 06:00 PM

this thread actually surprises me. A common perception ppl have of richmond i find, is that it's ditchmond and has nothing to do within it. In this thread though, people seem to acknowledge that there's in fact A LOT to do here, which i believe is the truth. The reality is that it has everything a typical city has and more. Our theatre is massive, we have a go-carting place, a massive casino, more malls than other cities, the airport, now a skytrain and because of the heavier chinese influence, we have things like night market, chinese malls and chinese food and hookers that're cheaper and dirtier than your city's. +1. +Herpes.

One thing that DOESN'T surprise me in this thread is the perception taht richmond is hongerville. Yes richmond has far more hongers than everywhere else and you can't deny that it's fulla asians. However, number 5 and cambie, down to bridgeport where i live is browntown (and lately a lotta black immigrants too) and number 6 road and up is white farmerville. Beyond that is the ghetto new west border and down in Steveston, you can find the japanese population and the old jews and retirees. Scattered throughout you've also got filipino ppl. So does richmond have a lotta chinese ppl and hongers? Yes. As much as people tend to think? I'd argue no.

To be honest, i get more of a culture shock when i drive up into east van, where the poor immigrant asian population is massive. My east van friends show me their highschool pix and i see a single white guy and two random brown guys who seem to be lost. One of my asian east van friends went so far as to tell me that they've never even met a brown person before lol. My highschool on the other hand, I'd guess, had about 30% brown ppl, 5% white ppl, 20% other and 45% chinese ppl. I'd go on to argue that that's actually a typical representation of the city as a whole and not just my highschool.

I think that just like how people associate wally's ghettoness with all of surrey, people seem to associate richmond's honger population who they see on 3 road (some of which are from outside of richmond visiting might i add) with the entire city and i just don't think it's accurate.

The worst part was I NEVER even ejaculated. This was my first time having sex and it didn't feel that good. Truth be told, masturbating feels better and it's free!
:lol

This poor fucker paid to lose his virginity, and made the stupid mistake of haggling price beforehand (I've never bought a whore, but I know you never do this with a stripper either, if you want a good show).

And then he want back and did it again! :lol

While I was doing the missionary position on her, Paris had her hands crossed over her breasts and told me I was leaning too hard on her causing it hard to breathe. Upon hearing this, I apologized and lifted my upper body with my forearms so my chest was not touching her breasts. She never looked at me during sex, had her head tilted looking the other way, and even yawned a couple of times.

I live in Vancouver, travel to Richmond Burnaby almost everyday to meet up with people and other than the c lais and n drivers I don't mind driving in Richmond it saves gas no hills, lights are spread far apart. it's not that long of a commute from Joyce skytrain area it takes no more than 20mins to get to 4 & Granville when it's busy 10-15 when it's not.
But going to Surrey is a headache, I do have friends out there but their mostly out here all the time so I don't have to go there as much. I don't have trouble getting around but all u get is lights everywhere and there mostly red. And I don't wanna get started with the dippers out there thats a whole nother story. Surrey E.I are I don't know... different. thats how they stare.

that would be langley for panther

Surrey doesnt really have much, but is pretty much equal distances from all the places that do, especially if you live by the freeway :)

I have Richmond, Vancouver, Downtown, s2s, etc pretty much mapped out in my head. Greater Vancouver is a pretty small place.
