Just had Pho Vinh this morning. Best hangover food, EVER!

BTW does anyone what's in the special dipping sauce they give out for pho? That stuff is killer....

love that place. I try to go once a month. I think they have some of the best rice dishes in the GVRD.

I've been going to this new place. It's on grandview and boundary. No means extrodinary but I think it's worth checking out. Their spring rolls are damn authentic to what I got in nam, and their soup base is good.

I don't know the name but it's a small mom and pop shop. I think it's next to a matress store.

That would be Grandview and Rupert, across from the Esso. I haven't been but I'll try it out one day.

I accompanied achiam to Vietnamese the first time he went -- we were actually driving towards Song Huong (which I love) and I got overly lazy so we stopped there!

If he recalls, we both thought the meat was shit, and the portions small. The noodles were great, and the broth was pretty light, but the service really elevated the place!

I wouldn't have rushed back, but achiam did, and claimed to have a great meal. So perhaps the place is just a bit inconsistent ?

I am excited to try Pho Vihn -- I eat pho 3-5 times a week when in Vancouver, and haven't yet found the truly superlative bowl.

If anyone hasn't tried Song Huong, I'd be interested to hear opinions! I love the place!

Let us know your thoughts when you tried Pho Vinh :haha:

bcrdukes 09-22-2009 12:24 PM

Although Pho Vinh is good, they use far too much MSG.

Vansterdam 09-22-2009 03:09 PM

^ i would love to see how you would critic my homemade pho that i make once in awhile when im super ripped.

Bring it on! I love home made pho! :)

Edit: Minus the weed. :D

TRDood 09-22-2009 10:46 PM

went there because of this thread, and man was i disappointed.
the soup had NO TASTE, i guess there's no MSG that's why.

went last sunday and there were 2 older man and a young guy working (the son, i assume)

the young guy took our orders and he was so rude and weird.. walked like a gangster and jumped on the money right after ppl pay their bill. i lauged when he asked his dad "DID THEY PAY FOR THEIR FOOD YET?" it was a family of 3, with a little daughter. i don't think they would run without paying.

then, i asked for my bill and it came up to $16.xx. gave a $20 bill and got my change, left $1.75 as tip and within 5 seconds the young guy said “you done with this man?”
i wtf and just walked out.

good thing he wasn't wearing hardcore ed hardy shirts and RR jeans.. LOL

the food, meh, i had a large beef ball + beef noodle soup and spring roll, as what bcrduke was saying, lots of soup, no pho, no meat.

spring roll look like a large KFC fry. it was deep fried to the maxors, it was fucking disgusting.

gf had a noodle plate, she said it was okay, nothing spectacular.

overall, not worth the drive and effort to park on main. the fucking dip on main and king edward is HUGEEEE

i'd rather go to my local pho places like pho hong on fraser.

10-10302 135 Street Surrey.

Basically RIGHT by the Surrey Central Skytrain station, in that small block of restaurants/salons/shops and across the street from the Safeway there. You can't miss it.

If this place is where I think it is, that's Happy Pho. The owner, Brian, is the happiest guy on the planet.

yep, i recommended it a few pages back. I found they used pretty fresh ingredients. (i saw the owner bring in a few batches of basil leave plants, instead of most places that use bulk basil leaves)

+ the portion is pretty good. Is too bad their location is kinda far away, good for SFU students , but for vancouver people is kinda wierd to travel far for just pho.

but ya, i just ate there last week, and it was still very good. Their fried chicken wing is pretty good, the sauce makes it a good appy for 3
