Where should I go to sell vintage comic books?

hey guys,

looking to sell a collection of (probably very) valuable comics. things like the original xmen, spiderman, hulk, dare devil, etc.

what's a good place to sell? i'd rather have cash for a new engine :)

TIA!

quasi 09-09-2009 12:55 PM

ebay? Way larger market.

spoon.ek9 09-09-2009 12:57 PM

i was thinking about that but then i've never sold anything on ebay before so i don't exactly have a seller's reputation estabilished yet.

Preemo 09-09-2009 01:00 PM

It's not so bad. I started off with zero and ended up with 60 stars at the end of the month. You DO sell, eventually. However, what stopped me was all the effing fees they charge. Fees for selling shit and fees for using PayPal etc, etc.

However, they might move a lot faster on eBay than on CraigsList.

Psykopathik 09-09-2009 01:57 PM

worst case scenario, try a local comic shop.

make a list of what you have and see what they may offer you. some however may laugh in your face.
man maybe i should look into doing this too. i have several thousand comics....

El Bastardo 09-09-2009 01:57 PM

PM me with the list of your title/issue numbers and your estimated condition. I may be interested in buying some or all.

spoon.ek9 09-09-2009 02:04 PM

i can see 2 advantages for ebay: larger market, free postings for new sellers.

down the road it does get expensive as mentioned.

i was thinking of local comic shops but i don't even know where to begin. i hardly think they'd laugh at Uncanny Xmen Issue #1 :) this alone (if it was mint, which of course it isn't, was $10,000 value back in 1996).

El Bastardo: the list will be quite long, i'll work on it this week.

JesseBlue 09-09-2009 03:42 PM

no archie? i used to have xmen #1 when i was younger...sold for $80 bux

nack 09-09-2009 05:12 PM

comicon :D

IMO a better option is a really large comic forum with a classified section. No ebay fees, and an equally large consumer base

StylinRed 09-09-2009 06:01 PM

most comic collectors prefer those comics that have been valued and graded and shoved in those hard plastic cases with the grading stamped up top (cant remember what they're called)

but i remember they charge crazy fees especially if its a valuable comic i think they charge a percentage of its worth

but they sell a lot easier and better $$$ wise

but anyhow like said above id make a list and send in the presumably more valuable ones in to get graded and then sell them on some comic book forums first before going to ebay

uncanny xmen 1! crazy its not a reprint is it? :)

i used to have a great collection of valuable old comics and as a kid i spilled my cup of milk all over them -_- (they weren't in bags i had em all out to play with)

StylinRed 09-09-2009 06:42 PM

DC5-S 09-09-2009 09:11 PM

i got spawn issue 6,7,8 or something like that.. but those are worthless

Senna4ever 09-09-2009 10:13 PM

Double post...

Senna4ever 09-09-2009 10:19 PM

I have Spiderman #1 signed by Todd McFarlane...is that worth anything? I have a pretty big collection from the 80's and 90's, like the death of Superman & Superboy, the original Transformers, Spawn #1-10, etc...

Oh, I wish my dad hadn't thrown away his collection of comics and sports cards in the 60's. He apparently had a large collection of Superman, Batman & Plasticman comics, baseball and hockey cards. He remembers having cards of the big names like Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Gordie Howe, Maurice Richard AND he distinctly recalls having a Mickey Mantle rookie card....all trashed.
