I have ordered a MKVI, in Carbon Steel with DSG 3 Door, I cannot wait til it arrives.

The LED Tails have been announced optional on all Golf Models in Europe (ala 2010 R32). I am hoping I can retrofit those tails onto my own MKVI sometime next year. They look great!

They sell it on OEMplus already.. I think the ppl on the whoretex are trying to figure out how to activate it with the VAGcom though..

Any TR 5doors coming to your dealership soon? A bit flexible with the options, but it must be a manual and has a moonroof..

twitchyzero 12-14-2009 10:52 AM

mkvi = new kid on the block

So it appears that you can order a 2010 GTI in 'Shadow Blue' in the US starting November, 2009. I went to the Kelowna VW dealership asking if it can be done, and without looking into the system, they flat out said no. !@#@*(%

I know there's a few VW guys lurking on here from Westminster/Clarkdale. Can you chime in as to whether you can order one?

I am ready to pull the trigger ASAP, and I'm more than happy to wait for 3-6mths if that's how long it'll take to get here.

Here's a pic of a MK5 in Shadow Blue

I am the lurker from Westminster. Currently you can not order a blue GTI.

And I currently have no red GTIs coming either! We hardly ever sell red cars, so we tend to not order them.

OMG, VW is such a tease..

It's interesting how VW is showcasing the R @ a Canadian show, and did not bring it with them to the Detroit NAIAS

too_slow 01-15-2010 01:13 PM

Golf R or a Jetta GLi Coupe.. hmm, this will be tough (assuming both arrives in North America)

I heard they are bringing it to New York auto show. VW didn't want the New Compact Coupe concept to overshadow the Golf R.

too_slow 01-15-2010 02:20 PM

^Right, totally forgot about the NYC show..

Thought I'd add some more recent pictures... these were taken before the New Year. Those on GolfMk6.com probably saw these already.

basically, vw canada brought a 2011 golf-r to the montreal auto show to "gauge interest" to see if there is a market for the car in canada.... pilgrimage anyone?

Changed the oil today... was so easy! Just my first time changing the oil, too, which is why I kinda made a mess afterwards. :haha:

Here's a how-to using the instructions from here:

1. Put car up on ramps and open hood:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4047/...b2f562ec_b.jpg

2. Get your supplies out - oil, drain pan, funnel, filter, gloves, 19mm wrench, shop towels etc.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2745/...a4d8420fa2.jpg

My oil of choice - Motul X-Cess 8100 5W40.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2794/...44813cf4a8.jpg

3. Go underneath car and undo the drain plug. Make sure the drain pan is already down there before you undo it, haha.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4045/...6427513d7a.jpg
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2752/...913998887b.jpg

4. Allow oil to drain out, and undo the oil filter up top. I removed the engine cover to make life easier.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4032/...592b45f618.jpg
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4044/...cc7d1a69c2.jpg

Here's when I ran into problems - I couldn't find the proper size filter wrench. It was either too loose or too small. So, I ended up not changing the filter for now - I will change the filter at 8000kms, along with the engine oil.

Since the factory interval is 15000kms anyways, I think I should be fine... hopefully. :iono:

5. Replace oil filter, after lubing up the seal with some engine oil. Just dip a finger in there and do it.

6. Replace drain plug - you can use a new one or the same one, I did the 2nd option.

Make sure you have the drain plug on tight before filling up the car with oil.

7. Add oil - surely you don't need pictures for this one... When you're nearly at 4.5 quarts, slow down. Put the oil cap back on, and start up the car. Let it run for a minute or two, then check the oil level using the dipstick. Add if necessary.

I ended up using almost 5 quarts of Motul, and the dipstick showed nicely full all the way to the top of the dotted part.

8. All done! Clean up your car, tools, work area and back it off the ramp.

It's quite simple... just make sure you have the right oil filter wrench. :mad0259:

Is anyone getting any money off MSRP from the dealership?
if so how much?
and which options did you get??
thanks

too_slow 01-21-2010 06:01 PM

WOW you're changing your oil already??? On the whoretex forums, they say you're supposed to run the oil that came with your car for a good 10,000miles before you change it. The reason for this is that the oil that came with your car came with special addictives to help your engine break in properly...

Kalize: The dealership here in Kelowna has a DBP 3dr GTI 6spd with Leather+Tech.. They said if I finance it, the best they can do is offer a $500 discount..

Got $1500 off at Clarkdale with Car Cost Canada - well worth the sign up price.

Options were DSG, Leather Package (leather, sunroof). Got Monster Mats thrown in.

Let's put it this way - would you rather have metal shavings running around the inside of your car for 10,000 miles (16,000 kms!) and trust this mythical additive to keep the engine safe or change the oil sooner? When I got the oil out, it looked very black and dirty. I haven't heard anything beyond conjecture that we have to keep the factory oil in for 10,000km to have the engine break in properly.

The reason I wanted to get the oil change done is because I plan to go to the Racing Greed Dyno Day on Saturday and then the UBC Sport Car Club Autocross "Slush #4" session next Sunday. I don't want to be having metal particles in the engine when I'm going to be running hard and fast for prolonged periods.

I also talked to Andrew, the service advisor at Clarkdale, and he said between 2500km and 3000km is fine for an oil change. The odometer read 2525km, which should pretty much be broken in by now.
