Gran Turismo PSP

I`m playing it right now and all I gotta say...
mind = blown :eek:

Don`t worry, Im not a full blown pirate - I preordered a copy too...

but damn... this is great, youtube videos/reviews etc.. do NOT do it justice. This is something you need to see yourself on the PSP screen to appreciate.
Sound is extremely good given it only outputs stereo too; on my headphones I can clearly hear the VTEC crossover on the NSX I'm driving

!Aznboi128 09-29-2009 10:54 PM

how's the graphics tho?

cause no matter what game I play on the psp it sucks

for the PSP, it is extremely respectable. If you have ever played GT3 and GT4, you would have a good idea of how things will look like:

Quality of car modelling is straight off GT3 (boosted the reflections a bit though, and windows are not 100% opaque like they were in GT3)

Environment modelling is detailed like GT4

and like you, I hate pretty much any game that is not a puzzle/side scroller (you get the point) on the PSP, but this is very very, very very different

This should really be in the Gaming forum

You have to be quite the GT fanboy to actually say this game is really good

Razor Ramon HG 09-30-2009 12:11 AM

No career mode pretty much made me lose all interest in the game.

hi5-ive 09-30-2009 12:12 AM

no career mode?!

Agreed, and I am so I know my opinion is heavily biased.

BUT, gameplay wise, it's not that great - as others have said no career mode pretty much destroys the game, and the lack of pressure sensitive buttons is just silly.
Nonetheless though, technically I must say this is quite an achievement.

ime2006 09-30-2009 01:44 AM

PSP GT is not bad.........

It even has trade and share mode.....wtf...lol

It's pretty easy to make money.....
just buy all the cars when you have good dealer comes up.

But too bad, no mods for the car... and i cant sell cars from garage....aww.
Overall - 8/10

.Renn.Sport 09-30-2009 05:56 AM

this is probably the worst GT....
they didnt even bother to update the car roster in the game! there are pretty much no cars from 06 till today.... the cars are all from 04/05 or older

all they did was add a handful of new cars, 2 Ferrari, 2 Lambo, 1 Veyron, 1 GTR Spec V, 1 ZR1 and a few newer lemans car is all about the new cars there is.

there are no EVO X, GRB STI, E92 M3, standard R35 GTR, FD2 Civic Type R.... or anything u can think of from 06-today other then the ones previously announced

CP.AR 09-30-2009 08:00 AM

^wtf... you kidding me? no evo X? you sure that it isn't because of the way they have the "dealer days" that you haven't seen it yet...

I've played the game for a few days already.... I'm sure pretty much everything already showed up by now, including bugatti, lambo and ferrari...

here are the cars that I have been expecting to see, but have not shown up, so i doubt they are even in the game....
GRB STI
GDB STI version III
FD2 Civic Type R
Facelifted DC5 Integra Type R
R35 GTR (regular)
EVO X
EVO 9
E92 M3
E82 135i
G37 Coupe
V36 Skyline sedan
370Z
new Mustang
current gen IS

everything on this list except 370Z, FD2R and Mustang are all in GT5 Prologue which was released 2 years ago. i can say other then the ZR1 and Spec V, I have not seen a car in the game that is newer then 05

LOL I bet they just released the "tech demo" they've left aside since the PSP launch.

.Renn.Sport 09-30-2009 09:07 PM

why is E V O censor out as $$$?

CP.AR 10-01-2009 08:34 PM

I dunno... maybe the RS censor is an STI fanboy =(

My review:

Cons:

-Yes, no career mode (no modifying) is retarded considering this is afterall, Gran Turismo.
-The Random car dealerships that appear. But it does keep my interest coming back everytime to only see that "Izuzu" is now available!
- The horrific A.I. that is sadly common on all GT games. IMO, this is one of the WORST aspects of GT. They will keep their line stubbornly and ram into you. For fun, I like to challenge myself and try to overtake them with out getting rammed into.
- A.I. is too easy. Often, I find myself trying to avoid them under braking.

Pros:
- Best racing game on the PSP! GT fan boy alert. If you can ignore the career mode, this has got to be the best simulator. I can give a rats ass about drifting and "boost" buttons while evading cops. I doubt I will touch Initial D very much anymore more.
- Massive amount of car selection. For the people griping, lets get real. If this wasn't GT, you wouldn't be bitching. What other game will you find a Ford Taurus SHO, Lambo, Civic?Pretty diverse if you ask me.
-Realistic tracks. Laguna seca. Twin Rings and more.
-The graphics.

My fav car at the moment is my NSX-R, which is consistenly quicker than the S-Zero. BTW: You can unlock your own music selection by completing the challenges.

SkinnyPupp 10-03-2009 08:13 PM

Hyde is right, the cars are all from 2005, with few exceptions. This game was probably done in 2005, just tweaked a bit in the last year.

I see what they did there though, instead of a career mode like all previous GTs, it has the "match your ride" system which is like that hidden mode found in GT2 (they just make up a list of cars to race you depending on what you drive).
On a design perspective it makes sense because a PSP is intended for casual gaming something like a 20 lap race is not suited to the console.
Hardcore fanboys don't like it but oh well?

That's to enrich the value of multiplayer play, there are over 800 cars in this game (I only realized this after I read the online docs about it) there will be cars that your friend rocks that you totally can't find or afford. Being able to share the cars means you can get some cars for free given you play this outside your living room sometimes in a social setting.

I find it a lot better than Forza once you ramp up the track difficulty (it's the same track it has to be the AI that's ramped up) to A or B. I have close battles with the whole pack of (albeit small pack) cars the whole way around nurburgring and that's exciting.

As above, I think you need to race on the same track a few more times to get the AI to "think straight". Tracks as inorganic as Tsukuba circuit you will find yourself doing late braking battles against the AI, which means white knuckle all out racing. The AI will not ram you if you took an advantageous spot before entering a turn (i.e. inside) but if you somehow attempt to overtake on the outside they will "force" their way around like what you would too back in GT2. But it's a very good balance of realistic AI and crashing. (unlike NFS:Shift where a tap is almost always guaranteeing a spinout)

Amen to that, with that said, if you enjoy career mode you can always find a repackaged GT2 Sim that will let you do all sorts of things....different style I guess.

LOL it has pickup trucks too. But it still has that funky powerband that's very un-truck-like....

It's amazing how it pretty much resembles the look and feel of GT4 plus some more on such a small console.
Also I quite like the new physics say if you got a car completely sideways in a spin you can do a pretty good smoke show now with a car with some gutsy engine instead of some artificial accelerator limiter in the previous games.

With that said I still hope for a few more things in the game:
1. no rims. Come on man I want my hellaflush and those 90s Japanese cars come with wheels that look like ass...
2. possible multiplayer via wifi? It's hard to find someone to race as it is. It's uncool to ask ppl do u have GT on ur PSP coz u sound like a fucking nerd.
3. no press sensitive acceleration button and brake button - this makes the control fidelity go back to GT2 era with the digital buttons but the physics a fully 09 model.....so it's...errr challenging to drive smoothly.

But overall, great game, remember to select the cars' driving physics as "professional" and shut down TRC and ASM or else it's not really GT imo.

ilvtofu 10-04-2009 10:52 AM

Just played it two days ago, not bad for PSP but lacks feel of course,
Every car feels the same to me :(

But great nonetheless for PSP real addicting,
Review on the PSP GO, fucken download games  LOL
Graphics aren't bad closer to gt4 nothing like prologue

Can't wait for forza though!!!

cure for you!
in the car selection screen, click into the car, scroll down the screen until you find "driving physics" and change that from "standard" to "professional"

then get into NSX Type S zero and try to go over Laguna Seca without spinning out, now it feels totally different.

I play on "S" which is still not that hard. But then again, Ive been playing some of these tracks since GT2. A bit obsessed.

Sadly, it seems half of the 800 is Japanese or a Skyline. Don't get me wrong, the small population will care that it's a Type S, vs. Type S Zero, vs. Type R. For me, I love it.

I think alot of people were expecting way too much. Like you said, this is portable gaming. For guys like me, give me realistic tracks, real cars, decent physics and I'm happy. I'm a glutton for punishment and will continually check the dealerships like a retards searching for the car I need (Please increase the domestics!)

Gran turismo is not perfect but should be held to a higher standard. One of the aspects I miss very much, is lapping the same track repeatedly changing my suspension and comparing lap times. I'm also obessesd lapping the same track with different cars in the same class comparing track times. From my own observation thus far for sport compacts:

DC5,EP3,GTI,DC2,Focus.

Fav car at the moment, my Spoon EK and Camaro. Anyone know if Mugen is available or the Grand National?

You know what I have been finding myself doing "lately"? (less than 24 hours have passed since I got the game u know LOL) I just check the dealership on a random basis. Do you know that the dealerships will rotate too if you leave the game off for a while and turn it back on? I think the randomizer takes parameters like current time of day (real world time) and change the dealerships (that's when I had autosave ON, now I turned it off and it seems like it remembers which 4 dealerships were available last time). I always buy something every time even if I don't care much about the car, money is easy to come by in the game anyway. But it still encourages you to buy with discretion coz those good rides are a few mil Cr and you can't sell your old cars to get the money back....

go into race mode and switch from race to time trial. That mode lets you lap the same track repeatedly. Once you are out of a run you can immediately jump into car settings menu and fiddle around. As for same class vehicles I guess you just gotta catch em all! LOL.

Mugen showed up and randomly threw me a Mugen S2000..... I think there are no FD2 Mugen RR though. I have the GNX it's pretty wicked. Other domestics maker have a bunch of newer cars too but none of the recent bunch of retro things like challenger/charger/magnum etc.
Complete official car list

Like they say, it's like the GT4 list of cars plus a bunch of stuff. I got my Lamborghini Countach and unlike common believe it handles very well.

Yeah, thought about that but you get money from the races. LOL 3 Laps on "S" gets you 81k. Not bad.

I am scared now. Pretty much completed everything except the last challenge "Ultimate 2" or something.. I need to ration my playing time carefully or check into a GT anonymous.

FML, the Polyphony car showed up for 12 million. Fustrating when the car you want finally appears and you're short money!
