HWY 1 Changes

I got a question, does anyone who what the fuck they are doing on HWY 1 around the Boundry and 1st Avenue Exits?

They have made the lanes extremely tight, and in addition have shortened all of the merging lanes, especially at the Boundry St merger, and it seems extremely dangerous.

Why did they do this, are they eventually adding more lanes, or is it just another case of spending the budget for no good reason?

murd0c 09-30-2009 11:04 AM

They are going to be putting 4 lanes each way to 200th.they are expanding
They whole number 1 for the new port man

silk 09-30-2009 11:11 AM

they paved the middle lane of hwy 1 like shit !!

This would explain alot of the road work done in port coquitlam lately
Also that new traffic light on United Blvd

thumper 09-30-2009 11:32 AM

they are doing a lot of concrete repair work underneath the freeway overpass that goes over e.1st... they've got a lot of hoarding and scaffolding up so it's a bit narrow going thru that area as well.

jigjag 09-30-2009 11:35 AM

instead of started a new thread, i figured this would be relevant to the title.
Found this on the skyscraperpage. Friggin nuts.
Its gonna finally be up to spec for an area as busy/congested as it is, but goddamn, ppl that don't know how to navigate on our roads already are gonna cause some serious mayhem...
Not sure what the eta is, but looks impressive.
Discuss.

Looks like American hwys.

It's good that they're expanding the Highways/Freeways. They should have done it a couple years ago. You guys can all flame me but I think there should be a toll for #1 Highway.

StylinRed 09-30-2009 12:59 PM

^^^ they should put a toll on your driveway :P

those pictures look interesting, they should increase the speed limit on the hwy too

but then with the way ppl here drive, maybe not :/

murd0c 09-30-2009 01:07 PM

I heard that since its hwy #1 they are not allowed to put a toll on thge bridge/hwy. Can anyone
Confirm this?

!Aznboi128 09-30-2009 01:08 PM

fyi guys, on hwy one just right at boundary 's exit, lowered cars/ or car's with stiff suspension is suggested to go to the left lane. there's a pot hole at the bridge gap

I'm surprised there aren't any accidents at that boundary rd on ramp. They made it SO short, and they don't exactly warn you that it's gonna be short.

I mean yeah they put up like 4 yield signs on the way up but cmon, yield signs on highways usually mean speed up and merge, not slow and stop if there's no room to merge.
MANY on-ramps have a 'yield' sign instead of a "merge" sign and so people treat them the same. How are people supposed to know for the shortened Boundary Rd on-ramp, you should slow and stop?
I've seen people just speed up and merge not realizing that the on-ramp was that short. No accidents but still fucking dangerous and many close calls, or "close merges" where the car squeezed in-between a narrow gap.

The City is fucking stupid. Should just put a stop sign at that on-ramp.

blind corner, then little distance to accelerate....

too bad the government is stupid and the smart thing to do would of been to put a surface skytrain that runs in the middle of the #1 from abbotsford to N.Van

Um, They have. Once they are done with this Construction they will ask for more money. What better way then to raise our property tax again etc etc. Putting tolls on Mega-highways proves that it's effective in keeping the highway pothole free and will reduce traffic congestion. Just like the Coquihalla Highway when it was tolled. Now that the Highway isn't tolled guess where the government is getting more money to fix the damn highway. It used to be partly funded by our Tax money then the Toll's money. Now it's fully funded by our Tax money. Many cities and countries have done this (tolls). Even Toronto has tolls.

eurochevy 09-30-2009 08:26 PM

ya the new merger thing at boundry on ramp is retarded u have like no room u basically gotta stop and if its mild traffic ur screwed and basically have to gun it so hope u don't have a slow car..when theres lots of traffic its fine and no one there its fine too just the mid point that screws u thy did put a yield sign..but somehow i don't think i should be yeilding and trying ot watch a granny accelerate onto a 80 km/h road on a basically blind corner
