awsome bar lag

I don't know if its just me, but when i click on New Posts and I get the Canada credit free red Awesome Bar ad.. it lags like CRAZY and I can barely click anything.... Anyone else have this problem? is there a way around it?

tiger_handheld 10-01-2009 01:15 PM

beat me to it!

site is super laggy thanks to some choice banners!

what happened to the nice balance of ads vs performance we had before?

tiger_handheld 10-02-2009 02:00 PM

any updates on this guys? its pretty annoying..

!SG 10-02-2009 06:44 PM

i dont get it, i dont get any lag at all, if anything its 1/2 a second slower load than the rest of RS

!SG 10-02-2009 06:45 PM

what OS are you running?

what browser are u running?

what browser settings?

hmm, im on win7 and ie8 and the only issue i have is actually with ie8 itself where some tabs open but wont load any pages.

tiger_handheld 10-02-2009 07:25 PM

vista
fire fox 3.5.3
what do u mean by browser settings?

it takes at least 5-10 seconds if i want to right click and open in new tab
or if i want the page to load in the same tab

G 10-02-2009 10:50 PM

Vista
newest firefox.. i dont know what version...

but when i open it, and that canadian free credit thing pops up, it lags ALL my tabs/windows REALLY badly.. i will right click, and it will take at least 15 seconds to respond, etc etc....

!SG 10-03-2009 12:27 AM

vista is probably the problem, seems to be the problem for a lot of ppl

!Aznboi128 10-03-2009 09:52 AM

same problem here

osx 10.6
on safari and firefox :(

CorneringArtist 10-03-2009 10:26 AM

I mentioned this a while ago when I first started seeing the ad. I run Windows XP Pro with Firefox 3.5.3, and in the instance I get TWO of that ad on the same screen, I get fucked up badly...

G 10-03-2009 01:19 PM

Its not about the 2 ad's thing.. for me, its that ad specifically... i mean, the toyota thingys are okay... but the one with all red, with some kinda free credit check or something.. with the white lines on the background.. that one fucks me up BAD.

Eff-1 10-03-2009 02:58 PM

I have the same problem. It's that bullshit free credit report ad. The red one.

IE7
WinXP

This one...

CorneringArtist 10-03-2009 03:37 PM

^ I know what you mean, but imagine when you get TWO of that ad on the same screen (it can happen). With that, you'll feel like you have a computer from the 1990's.

looks like its the ad itself, and not the OS or browser..

If they are google ads , theres a way to block specific ads. something about blocking competing ads - u can block it by url.

SkinnyPupp 10-03-2009 08:37 PM

I'll block that ad.

tiger_handheld 10-03-2009 08:47 PM

sweet!

SkinnyPupp 10-03-2009 09:15 PM

By the way, always make sure your flash player is up to date. It is probably what is causing the performance issues, and is also very unsecure.

G 10-03-2009 10:07 PM

Thanks skinny pup!

edit: when will it be blocked by? i just clicked "new posts" and it had it on the sidebar again.. :P

!SG 10-04-2009 07:19 AM

hmm, maybe thats why, i had to redo my system so thus almost every addon is uptodate now.

i get no lagg loading the ads at all =/ and its not like im running a crazy system either, old school dual core 3.0G w/ 4G ram. loads fine.

SkinnyPupp 10-04-2009 07:47 AM

It usually takes a couple hours to block. I can't see the ad myself, so I can't test it.

The problem is almost certainly software-related, but since so many people are having it, we can block it for them.

tiger_handheld 10-04-2009 03:08 PM

still getting the ad in the awesomebar guys..

i downloaded flash 10 0- and it has no effect.

what other updates do i need??

G 10-04-2009 03:15 PM

Yea.. im using a new laptop that I bought and I still get the lag, but its SLIGHTLY better if i scroll down and cant see the ad.... but almost 100% of the time, i get it on the awsomebar when i go to "new posts" :P DO NOT WANT FREE CREDIT SCORE. lol

SkinnyPupp 10-04-2009 06:38 PM

Duh, they spelled their own fucking domain name wrong on their banner.

It should be blocked within a couple hours.
