Conditions for Driver Prohibition
 

On ICBC's website:

"Why am I being prohibited?
There are several reasons why you could be prohibited from driving in B.C. Examples are an unsatisfactory driving record, 12- or 24-hour prohibitions and court-ordered prohibitions."


What constitutes as an "unsatisfactory driving record"?

That is up to the Supt. Motor Vehicles to decide. Lots of tickets that show a bad attitude and a history of driving that breaks the laws would indicate an "unsatisfactory driving record ". The more moving violations you have, the more likely you are to be prohibited. The also seem to have a lower threshold for new drivers in the GLP as the MVB have said that they will do this to try to impress proper driving actions on new drivers early in their driving career.
You should know that ICBC and the MVB have requested that Police inform them of drivers who display poor attitudes and present high risks to other drivers and themselves. I have written reports to them requesting that MVB take a look at the driver's continuing suitibility to hold a DL when I came across terrible attitudes and terrible driving. An excessive speed ticket does not tell the story...but letting them know that it was 232 in a 110, over an extended distance and in traffic, does. ( BTW that was an adult in his 50's and he had major attitude problems to go with it.)

Does insurance claims have something to do with it too?

Only if you got tickets for causing the crash. I have been in 2 crashes and in both cases they were not my fault. Rear ended once, parked car hit once and paint chips from road debris twice. No prohib.

Don't think so. The Superintendent of MV looks at your ticket record and decides to suspend you.

Your at fault accidents will cause you to pay a higher premium (and with tickets) that ICBC will combine.

But for prohibition, it is solely by the superintendent of MV and he'll only look at your driving record and not your accident track.

superintendent of MV is there to keep immature drivers off the road.. Those who think they are the best drivers and cut in and out of traffic do not follow road rules or anything.. You would never be prohibited unless you are being negligent while driving or immature...

I'm not 100% sure, but common sense would be that everyone could get in accidents no matter what.. So no it should not affect your driving record. I mean someone could walk onto the road infront of you and you swerve to dodge them and you hit the car beside you.. You are still 100% at fault but you would not get a ding on the driving record for bad driving. Only your premiums would go up... Now if you were speeding excessively and you hit someone that might bring your driving record into account. Not to sure though.

So I got a Notice of Prohibition today.

Here are the offenses listed:

My first offense was made when I made a left turn and this woman was not watching the road and crazy speeding. I agree that it was still my fault since I didn't yield. Sure.

The second offense happened on the same date. When the car t-boned me, my N sign, on which I hang inside of my vehicle (rear windshield) due to the fact that people keep stealing it, fell off. The officer questioned me about it and I went to my the bank of my pathfinder to show him that it is indeed there and that it fell of during the impact. Guess what, he ignored me and ticketed me anyways.

As Zulutango says, Just the name of the offense doesn't tell a story. When you look at it- the third one makes it seem that I had alcohol in my system or I was driving 2 people that aren't my family. But the third offense is actually just me missing my N sign, because once again, people keep taking those N signs. (I put them inside my car now). I also remember complying to do the breathalyzer test and blowing a nice clean 0.0000000000000000000000000000000.

It kinda irks me- because the reasoning for prohibiting "is in the public interest due to your unsatisfactory driving record." Really, how is the world gonna be so much safer by taking off a guy like from the street? And all because I'm so lucky to have the cops pull me and ding me for having someone steal my N sign.

Anything I can do? I've done my best to drive safely and I was actually planning to book my Class 5 Road test next week. Accepting this means I'll have 2 wait for 2 more years again.

You should have definitely fought that 2nd ticket. That cop is unbelievable!
And, I'm also a constant victim to N theft, and have already been suspended by the superintendant (about a year ago).

Take off the N when you park and put it back on before you go. Problem solved.

No, you're an idiot because you knew full well that people steal N signs and failed to either keep it in a safe place (inside your car) OR do what the above poster stated.

when they say you have 21 days to decide if you accept the notice of prohibition, does day 1 start on the date listed on your notice or the day after? exs My letter was dated Jan 19 thx guys

There are times that it cannot be helped though, I've seen people walking between stopped cars (at a stop sign or what have you) taking N's off the back of the car. Dick move, but it does happen, especially at highschools.

Day starts when you send in your license.

It's also pretty stupid cause what if the N gets stolen at a parking lot, and on the drive home you get pulled over. What the shit were you supposed to do? Walk over to ICBC to get a new N sign? Or maybe walk home, print one off, and walk back to your car to drive it home.

Store the N in the car in the parking lot.

Everytime you park? That's such a pain.

I bet its a circulations anyways, somebodys N gets stolen, he/she goes and steals another persons N, who in turn steals another persons N... etc

Then post the N up using suction cups inside your window. That wasn't so hard was it?

My back windows are tinted, if I get pulled over I'm fucked.

My friend puts her purse in the trunk all the time and it's a routine. She gets out of her car, takes the N off her trunk and puts it in the trunk and takes out her purse. When she comes back to her car, she opens trunk, puts purse in trunk, takes out N and puts N on outside of trunk. Mind you, most guys don't have purses, but just saying that's how she does it and never has a problem.

And that is what you call a personal choice.

Or you can go to ICBC and get some replacement ones and have a few stocked in your glove compartment in case someone steals it.

When I still had my class 7, I grabbed like 5 of those signs and put them in my trunk just in case....

Me: Hello, may I get some N signs please?
ICBC: Okay
[hands me one sign]
Me: May I have more?
ICBC: Why do you need more than one?
Me: People like to steal them off my trunk.
ICBC: Then stick it inside your window.
Me: My back window is tinted, you can't see it clearly.
ICBC: Oh
[hands over 4 more]
Me: Thank you.
