Disputing City Parking ticket

Any one know how is the process in court? basically i'm a pizzaboy for megabite in downtown. work there for like a year, never gotten parking tickets til last month, now i got 4 tickets in total :(. I made minimum wage 7.50 and can't really pay for them, i only make 50-60 dollar each shift... I got 3 $50 tickets and 1 $35 tickets. Anyone gone through the dispute procedure?

1.) If i dispute and i lose do i pay $50 or $100 (as shown on ticket pay xxx past this day. do they have any "financing" available for tickets?
2.) how long is the wait for dispute.
3.) I heard it is hard to win parking violation tickets?!

p.s. when i see them meter maids i want to hit them/honk them. (probably not a good thing sigh...)

i don't know man, feeling sad, just try to make a living it's tough and i probably have to give my hard earn tips and money to parking ticket...i need a new job :(

1. If you lose the dispute you pay the full fine and yes payment plans are available
2. From the day you decide to dispute a court day will usually be like a year later
3. Typically unless you can prove financial hardship you won't win

silk 10-21-2009 07:51 AM

what the fuck? $7.50 is the min wage? i thought its higher than that...
i think you just got lowball by your boss, do they pay you cash under the table too?

dont dispute the ticket, find a better job...

by the way... your pizza is awesome and opens late... i occasionaly go there if im drunk on friday night

raygunpk 10-21-2009 08:00 AM

yea 7.50 can't be right

I think everyone is entitled to one "Free" ticket from the city of Vancouver. I think it's called a courtesy ticket so you can write off one of those tickets.

Mugen EvOlutioN 10-21-2009 09:15 AM

usually takes a year to wait for the court date

Went to court for my first ticket ever parking ticket. I had legit pictures and the ticketer couldn't backtrack understand how he figured I was parking illegally either. I still lost it and had to pay. Ridiculous.

The one time courtesy only applies to a meter violation and you must not have any outstanding tickets. On top of that the one time courtesy is given at their discretion and isn't a right.

First 500 hours of work in your life.

Basically your first job. Your employer CAN give you $6 an hr. This is known as the "training wage".

Daiso WILL pay you $6 if you don't have previous working experience. I know.

Drift_Monkey 10-21-2009 11:18 AM

your company should be paying for these tickets.

I heard from a friend of mine that works for a courier company that he can get parking tickets and towing fine and dont have to pay because the company will pay for it.

the only ticket that the company won't pay for are speeding tickets.

you! 10-21-2009 01:48 PM

wtf dude ur employer has been raping u in the ass and u dont even know it

TheKingdom2000 10-21-2009 02:49 PM

The employer is not responsible for parking violations.
Unless they state that in your contract.

Why would they pay for your mistakes? because you are too lazy to park a block or two away you decide to park illegally or you don't may the $.25 for the 5 mins you need?

And, this guy is probably getting paid under the table which is why he gets paid $7.50 an hour.

But if you're getting paid that little you might as well just get paid $8 an hour and pay tax and at the end of the year i'm sure you'll be under $17k or whatever the tax free shit is and get your money back?

Thanks for the clarification. I used mine when my bike was being ticketed as I was walking back to it. The meter guy said he would "note" that I would be entitled to a courtesy ticket. I called in the following Monday and the ticket was dropped.

Meowjin 10-21-2009 04:25 PM

megabite is owned by cheap turks. Considering how much that location rakes in too.

I'd sue your employer.

dna82 10-21-2009 04:46 PM

the city of vancouver is 61million dollars in debt this year...
illegally parking is not the smartest thing to do right now..
