On a related note, I decided to use the copy I got from Amazon instead of downloading professional through the student deal (nothing I would use in pro anyway). I expected to have to A) install windows xp before I could "upgrade" to windows 7 or B) input the windows XP disc to verify I had a legit prior OS to upgrade from. Instead I installed from the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Upgrade disc without ever having to use the XP disc. I was previously using the RC1 and did a clean install so there was no record of a prior OS on the drive. I guess the "upgrade" concept turned out different than people expected.
I'll save the student deal for when I get home to Vancouver and install it on my secondary rig there. Hopefully the deal sticks around for a few months.

well if they are sending me the disc then whats the differance between buying the retail boxed version, or buying this 39.99 "upgrade" ?
can you use this box kit to do a clean install as you would if you burnt the ISO?

can you use this box kit to do a clean install as you would if you burnt the ISO? | The difference is this one costs $40 and the in store one is $250. They are both the upgrade version. The "Box kit" is just the physical disc, you would use it in the same way you would use a bootable iso. Quote:

So im thinking of buying it for the $40. My question is if i buy the 32bit AND 64bit. Will they give me 2 keys? I want 2 keys so I can install 64bit twice. Because the keys are interchangable ( i believe). Can anyone confirm?

i'm running windows xp x64 with 2GB Ram, pentium D dual core processor
Is it worth it going to win 7 x64 (will upgrade ram of course) if I don't do any real resource hogging applications? I ask because I want to save myself the headache when it comes to compatibility issues, where 32bit should have the edge in this section.
Any insight?

Try googling the error message, you should find a solution involving windows repair and command prompt. | do you think its because i currently have an OS running right now so its detecting drivers and what not ?
should i wipe the harddrive first then boot up window 7 again and see if it still ask for drivers ?
if it still asks for drivers then i know its the installer

^ i doubt it ...
since home premium and ultimate cd keys all don't work with each other .. i'll guess diff bits have dif cd keys as well

i think keys are interchangeable between 32 and 64 bit..but not interchangeable between the diff trims (basic, home premium, pro, ultimate)
so if you have ea chinese win7 pro x86...that key works with english win7 pro x64.
That's how i think it works

i hate this .exe
i run the damn thing and keep getting this error.
but i dont know if it had competed or not. after that error i made sure the expanded folder wasnt on read-only. and did it again, but still got that error.
Where can i get the RTM, getalove.
EDIT: i ignored that error and started makign the .iso, its at 50% right now..

the error is because you are trying to run a 64bit window 7 on a 32bit vista/window right ?
if you are .. you will get that error ..
burn it on a DVD, boot it up and give it a try ... if you get the same error as i did .. asking for dvd drivers or something ..
then go download the RTM version on mininova ... or any other sites liek that ..
