What disturbs me is that the rich get richer and they don't do anything about the poor areas in China. Do they even donate? Seeing those photos make me think of The Corporation.. Profit only, disregard the safety of others, screw everything else

donate? you'd be fucking stupid to donate anything to the poor. 90% of the donation will likely end up into greedy government officials. The money will never benefit the poor.

ppl that do charity work will not even think about donation, but buy land and build schools and hospitals and not go thru the government or some charity organization.

Pollution in the Fraser or the Downtown East Side is NOTHING compared to the poverty and pollution in China...or lots of other places around the world, really.

distanc3 10-26-2009 09:55 AM

China has come along way from before, look at the support and turn around for the Sichuan earthquake, I am confident that not many country can show so much immediate and adequate support to their citizens at such critical times.

fuck china, thats all i gotta say

Mugen, would you have the same POV within the next 10 years as huge corporations move to their next hot spot with low labor cost? for example Vietnam and Philippines?

In the next decade we will slowly see more "Made in China" labels replaced with "Made in Vietnam" and "Made in Philippines" labels. Big clothing companies such as Gap/Banana Republic/(old navy?) have done so.

I would be foolish to try to boycott Chinese goods, also clothing brands such as Roots are often made in China, packed, and shipped to Canada to replace the "made in China" label with "made in Canada" labels.

You seem to know about corrupt governments. Is that where you get your cars from?

Anyways, serious props to the photographers for taking these photos. They may have shortened their lifespan too by visiting these villages just in order to make us realize the condition the poor chinese citizens live in.

I feel like donating some money to them.

Uh.. what support are you talking about?
The turnaround to save lives?

Till this day there are still families with no home from the Sichuan province.

I think China had good allocation of resources and fast response to the scene of the disaster. I cannot expect any country can rebuild such heavily populated area like Sichuan and house every citizen. Hell we cant even even house all of our citizens here in Vancouver (unaffordable housing = increase in homelessness), but China and along with all other countries that helped out did show great efforts to plan for rebuild which we should acknowledge. We've come along way from what China was 50years ago.

Edit: Supports would be the search as rescue, mobilization of people out of the area, the temporary housing, supplies and staples for the victims, and the tireless effort from the military to find survivors.

1st of all everyone know's working in a China is so HARSH unless you own a business and even then...

Factories MAY be dumping in the Fraser but they are not allowed to, and if they get caught, boy they are effed!

In China, you can bribe anyone and get away with anything. I know because my uncle works in China and he bribes people all the time...

China has a lot of work to do in regards to human rights and public space.

So the China Government gets bribed so the companies can pollute all they want?
Any written source on this?

happybunnie` 10-26-2009 02:33 PM

you do know that the bulk of canaidan air pollution comes here from china and the US so if they dont clean up their act we too will have to face some consequences

lol, holy fuck, maybe because of China, just maybe, alot of poor people like me are able to enjoy some of the stuff that were once only enjoyed by the rich ppl,
dude you gotta open ur eyes and travel around, hard to imagine ppl like you who has open access to internet (bias and unbias information) exist in Canada, have you ever been to any of those 3rd world countries and see whats really about?? or you just base your ideas on the ones around you and the ones u see on media?

sometimes I really wonder how can a person like you who has access to so much information and ability to travel around the world without much restrictions be so narrowly minded and arrogant.

Just a disgrace.

last time I check, 1st world countries just contribute as much as China and India in terms of CO2, and US doesn't want to be in the Kyoto Accord nor does Canada.

u make it sound like you live in a world where racist never exists.

Everyone has their favorites and dislikes, and mine just happen to be mainlainders. The world you live in must be a none stereotype , no racist happy loving world right?

If I don't have to corrupt them so much, I'd be using the money to buy a LP640, and not driving a regular Carrera 4S

and I'm running a company that recycle renewable resources in China. Environment is actually the biggest concern with the chinese government, and its also where the fattest piece of pie is now. ;)

No the world is like how you described (stereotypical and racist) but thats due to narrow minded people like you. Your negative view (wherever you got it from originally) is so entrenched within your narrow mind, you are incapable of accepting facts that differs from your POV. If you take a chance and look at the cost and benefits of globalization (whats happening to India and China and many other countries) purely benefits out weighs the cost.
