1 Attachment(s) Anyone tried this fried mackerel with black beans? It's better than the fried dace IMO. It's made in Thailand... so the fish are less likely to be drugged :p |
my mom knows a place or two that gets in this stuff through, a lack of a better term, "grey market". I still eat it once in a while at home, and my aunt came over last week when we were eating dinner and she was like "hey, where'd you guys get that?!" I will ask and see where they still have it in Vancouver. |
well to bump this thread back to life, confirmed you can still get it locally, my mom bought it from some china town store http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/8199/dsc0656y.jpg http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/9426/dsc0657uh.jpg pics or it didn't happen :troll: |
Damn that looks good. |
it was, compared to the one in a blue can kind from t&t, the fishes in the original kind are much bigger + more juicy than the blue can one. also saltier too + the flavor is just like it was back then :drool |
I've never had the stuff before, but as a kid I saw the cans at most of the Asian supermarkets I went to. If I find that variant that was mentioned or the OG stuff, I should try it. Canned sardines in tomato sauce isn't cutting it anymore. |
Bump.... Look what I had for dinner, fresh off the plane from Hong Kong!!!! It's the original, with the Traditional Chinese and all! http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5667499_n.jpg |
im jealous but for substitute i will have the black bean with eel instead  tats wat i usually have |
tons in Hong Kong supermarket, i guess they "improved" the levels of toxins in it haha. got half a dozen cans today. anyone want it? 5 dollars a can. |
Nostalgic. I use to eat this and mix it with rice back in the good old days. Its soooo bad for you - very oily and salty. I haven't touched this in 10 years lol |

Man, this reminds me of my childhood. I used to come home everyday and my grandparents would have this ready for me, with a bowl of rice and some soup. I miss those days..:okay: |
