ouch, will this be considered as a single vehicle accident where he is 100% at fault?
that sucks if icbc increases his premiums.

No it isnt being considered a single vehicle accident. I forgot what it was called but I believe this goes against his comprehensive coverage. Its under one of the terms in the ICBC agreement. In this case its most likly going to be classified as a natural disaster.
Whats fucked is most people deny the extra coverage for this type of incedent.

The couple were driving along Westminster Hwy, and a tree was blown over directly onto the Cayenne, where the hood/windshield intersect. They were lucky it didn't fall a fraction of a second later, or earlier, as the results of the accident would have been far worse.
As it is, it's amazing that it happened, and it makes you realize that the odds of getting hit by a meteorite are still pretty high, for example, but not impossible.
And no, they were not Asian. It was a Caucasian couple. The roof was removed by the rescue services to gain access to the vehicle's occupants.
As far as insurance, it'll fall (no pun intended) under comprehensive, most likely. If you ever inquire, comprehensive's there to cover things like falling objects, accidentally scraping your car while scraping ice off, accidentally closing your garage door on it, etc. That being said, it may be considered collision, as the vehicle was in fact moving at the time of the act of nature. Hardly an at-fault claim, though.

They were not caucasian either and it wasn't a couple. It was him and his mother. |

Regardless, it doesn't matter who was driving, it could have happened to anyone. It was a random freak accident involving a tree being blown over onto the roadway.
For all the people laughing and making jokes about it, I'm sure you'll be laughing and joking just as much if it ever happens to you or someone you know/care about.

wow what a mess... look at the headlight floating away
why was there no airbag deployment? i can understand that a tree falling on top of it wouldn't trigger and side/curtain airbags, but i would have thought crashing into a ditch would have at least set off the front ones?
