Couple Busted for Refusing to Pay Tip

http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/...052.html?yhp=1

Seriously? lol

StylinRed 11-21-2009 05:10 PM

in the states a lot of areas make it the law to pay a tip

only in america

ziggyx 11-21-2009 05:13 PM

^ Oh really? I didn't know that.
No wonder why it was such a big deal.

124Y 11-21-2009 05:27 PM

Wow... I really don't think tipping should be mandatory. Yes, it does protect the waiter/waitress from those under-tipping cheap bastards, but it does not encourage the waiter/waitress to provide good service to the customers since they are going to get tips anyways. Just my $0.02

Graeme S 11-21-2009 05:51 PM

The reason is that in a lot of states the minimum wage can be calculated *including tip*; ie: they Can pay servers as little as $2.50, but the minimum wage is around $7 or so.

Fucked up, huh?

if thats the case, then wats the minimum wage for?haha

its a service their providing, they're getting paid minimum for w/e the fuck their job is. tip is extra if i like them... ppl these days take tips for granted....i worked in the restaurant industry before too, and if ppl dont tip me i know why. so for those who suck at their job and complain about the tips, do something about it like provide the good service

Vansterdam 11-21-2009 07:11 PM

only in america.

One can argue shipping and handling is a product. The product that the customer got was broken therefore the customer should not be obligated to pay.

If only that argument works with Canada Post, UPS, or whatever too.

The problem with that is things will just get more expensive since businesses will have to pay their employees more.
Nobody will want to be a waiter/waitress/bartender/etc for $8 hr. Anyone that is willing to do that work for that little will be ugly and will most likely do a shitty job cuz they dont really want to be there.

Mugen EvOlutioN 11-22-2009 11:36 AM

tip is overated

kwistol 11-22-2009 11:45 AM

mandatory tips is stupid. And thats why waiters and waitresses don't do their jobs properly and takes the money for granted

shenmecar 11-22-2009 12:29 PM

"Government employees

Under federal law it is considered bribery to tip federal government employees. However, they are permitted to receive unsolicited non-monetary gifts less than or equal to $20.00.[1]"

azzurro32 11-22-2009 01:59 PM

If the tip is mandatory, that item is already "more expensive". The real cost of the item is simply hidden by relabelling "labour costs" as "gratuity".

tips are not necessary if they dont earn it.
