Another TV suggestion thread

Trust me, if I wasn't so challenged when it comes to home entertainment, I wouldn't ask but since it's a substantial purchase (for me) I should at least get some opinions from you guys.

I currently have a 56" rear projection and want to upgrade. Ideally, I'd find a 60" or bigger LCD or Plasma and wall mount it to increase my viewing distance from 10' to 12'.

Here's the problem. I initially saved up about $7000 for a 60 or 65" and HD box but lost my job for 6 months and had to dig into my TV savings fund. I'm back at work now but I'm down to about half of that and since then, the prices have dropped a bit.

Is there anything I can find in the sub $3000(tax in) range that will be decent and last 5+ years? I'm guessing a new HD PVR + mounting bracket and cables will run me another $700-$800.

Thanks for any help.

Something like this seems decent. I mean I know it's an LG but all the reviews I've been reading are pretty good. That and they're selling it at Costco, so 90 day no hassle return + 2 year warranty.

how bad is the 56"? Realistically I'd wait a bit before getting a new TV, you won't gain much size and since you had to dip into the TV money and are just back at work I'd say wait. You don't want to hit day 91 and have to sell everything for half of what you paid.

Also for cables be sure you buy them online or something, more expensive does not mean better no matter what the guy at the store says (unless you're running a ridiculously long cable)

I can't do a projector since there's a big window to one side, the other is open to the dining room/kitchen, and there's a ceiling fan between me and the tv.

underscore, the current tv is just okay right now. Bulbs need to be cleaned and re-aligned, picture quality is marginally decent. It was top of the line Panasonic 10 years ago. At this point, I'd rather watch a movie in HD on my 19" monitor.lol.

I'm at the same job so there's no probation to consider and while I was off, I took some insurance courses to work at my friend's new brokerage. The plan is to ride it out with my current job and build up my clientel with insurance til I can dedicate 100% of my time on it. There's no way I'd spend $4k on my system and sell it.... unless it's to upgrade.

Thanks for the heads up on cables. I'll probably end up buying a stand/bench directly below the tv.

I might wait for boxing day but do you really think 60"+ will go on sale?

Any of you guys think that LG I posted is any good?

Here's a great list of good TV's.
I personally would stick with a plasma TV, just because you get better colour and no motion blur.

A great list if you're going all out:
http://hdguru.com/hd-guru-picks-the-...u-can-buy/619/

A better list because you can still get and awesome 1080P plasma for about $1,000 and spend the extra money on some awesome speakers. Those tiny LCD TV speakers are junk.

nope, hardly if any

the trend seems to be sitting at 52" right now. 55" and 58" takes a big jump just for those small differences. 60" plus still sitting at a outrageous price tag

With all that light I'd suggest a matte LCD, Plasma you'll get a lot of glare

i got the 52" , IMO it aint big enough but thats just me im a whore. since my downstairs is a 72", so viewing 52" is like MEHHHH its alrit

quality, finish and overall is top notch. I would give this a 9/10 tv

My cousin has a sharp 42" 1080p 60hrz, and he said mine is a lottttt better, much brighter and pictures are a lot more crisp

IMO if you are balling get 7 series, if you do not want to spend money unwisely and wants the best bang for the buck? get 6 series, its already enough. I was really really desparate wanting the 7, but since its sold out everywhere i was pissed so i got the 6. Now after couple days of viewing, you know what? unless you are comparing SIDE BY SIDE, you really wont be able to notice the difference between 6 and 7 series with your eyes. If its LED ya you will probably notice it.

Remember guys 120hrz and 240hrz bullshit is just market gimicks.

60hrz to 120hzr okok i gotta give it to the manufacuture there might be a slight hint of difference, but not enough to sell your balls just to buy one and brag you got 120hrz.

This is my current set up.

Using a Westinghouse 42" 720p, with logitech z-5500 paired up with it.

Also using my old reliable Dell Inspiron 6400 to view everything on the TV.

EP3 seats I would have to say it's temporary furnature

My budget setup comes to about 1000 bucks before tax, that's just for the TV and speakers , this was back in the beginning of 2008.

6 series and 7 series, Its NOT just 120hz vs 240hz difference.
if you can do a side by side comparison, you will also see SOMETHING is different...

B610 is lacking of 18 bit Crystal Engine, widecolour enhancer 3

Btw, 7 Series, was $1799.99 (and for SP also dropped too.)
Only 1~200 bux differences, I would really rather go for 7 series.
TV is something you ganna keep it for over 3~5 years, thats why i always go for the best...

Just for your information, There will be a lot of B750 coming within a week or 2...
