DRL saves lives? Anyone else notice more and more cars out there with no headlights on, because of DRLs? I notice a lot of cars out there with no tail lights on in the evening. I thought how dumb can one be? People with Daytime Running Lights often forget to turn their headlights on at night. The lights on the dash would indicate the headlights are on, right? I recently bought a Honda Fit and the dash lights are always on, with or without the headlights on. This would explain why so many drive with no tail lights on. I try to tell these drivers that their headlights are not on, but they usualy just give me the finger. At least the brake lights work and that's what really matters, I guess. |
Not this again... |
coming home yesterday from richmond on hwy 91 it was raining and dark, this dumbass asian bitch in 06 accord sedan had absolutely no lights on i flashed her with high beam, i drove in front of her, turned off all my lights, than turn on my lights hoping she would notice. NOOOOO she was driving 110km on a rainny day with absolutely no lights other than DRL!!! my friend was like oh, lets see how the driving condition is without no lights, i couldnt see jackass shit with DRL on. Idiot ppl god damn  |
poor design on the manufacturer's part if they have dash light on all the time...sometimes driving in the city streets with non-HID cars you won't really be able to tell the difference between headlights on/off unless you're trying to read street signs. |
heck even with HID, in the rain or wet ground, you still can't see shxt about if your light's on or not from the ground... |
yesterday driving in the rain from work - some retard driving a car w/o Any lights, no DRL, nothing. Totally ignored all my hints. Black car too... |
I even saw a cop car driving with out lights the other night. I was like wtf he must be after someone. Nope was just driving don't think he had a clue |
mmhmm DRL not good for ppl who can be forgetful (like myself) Luckily you can't see shit with the Z so i'll never forget to turn on my lights at night, and the astra has auto headlights :D they have to start making auto lights standard on all cars soon just like DRL :D |
Well, my lights are either comepletely off, parking lights on, then headlights on. Sometimes in the city i'll forget to turn my lights on and i'll be driving around without lights for a bit, understandable when there alot of street lights about |
That's one thing I love about Subaru. I believe Volvo does it too, but you can leave your lights on all the time. They shut off when your ignition's off. Automatic headlights are the same. |
this and dumbass ppl with high beams on and dun realize they're on ... they turn them on when there's fogs or snow too pisses me off |
lol... we had this debate already in VAC. i'll point it out again, haven't tried on the new fits, but with my 2004 civic lx you could adjust the cluster lighting depending on the mode you're in. ie, daytime can be adjusted to be full blast (just like night time) or it can be as dim as nothing. the default was to have the cluster on full blast. |
If I don't turn on my headlights, my dashlights don't come on lol. |
Well, my opinion on this matter is, *shrug*. As long as they don't blind me with their highbeams, I'm good. If they choose to see LESS in the dark, that's their decision and not mine. It will be their problem if the suddenly swerve into the ditch because they noticed obstruction in the middle of the road a little later than if their headlights were on. As OP said, it may be that newer cars have lighted gauge clusters regardless of the headlights. My dad's MDX has that too. I find it pretty neat actually. You would think they would have the "Auto" headlights as well. |
auto headlights will be one of those things that are a HAVE must for some people... there's a ridiculous amount of people who drive around clueless as to whether their headlights are on or not. saw probably about half a dozen last night. i've been guilty of driving in city, well lit areas with just driving lights on, but at least thats better than no lights... |
At what point do you HAVE to turn on headlights? When it gets 100% dark? Or do you have to turn them on earlier? |

or 70% dark when it's raining/snowing |

174 (1) Except as provided in this Section, every vehicle upon a highway within this Province during the period from a half hour after sunset to a half hour before sunrise and at any other time when visibility is so limited by fog, rain, snow or other atmospheric condition or by insufficiency of light as to render not clearly discernible any person on the highway at a distance of 300 metres ahead shall be equipped with lighted head lamps and lighted rear lamps as in this Section respectively required for different classes of vehicle and subject to exemption with reference to lights on parked vehicles as declared in subsection (10). Not sure how exact you wanna be about sunset/sunrise each day...maybe take clues from the street lamp? If it's on, then you probably need to turn your lights on. |
One interesting thing that never got covered is that you should turn your headlights ON also when you're back lit by the sun... people can't really see cars in front of them if they don't have their lights on when the sun's literally shining right into their eyes... IMO, it's a time we experience so much since we're all in the north and as we know, the sun flies low at these days of the year... it's even more hazardous than no lights at night... |
lol.. i sometimes see people driving with no lights on. |
Driving around Stanley Park at night in the fog without headlights on was what we used to do when we were in high school. Kind of dumb, but it was a riot. Stupid things we used to do when we were young and had nothing better to do. You fooled around with your girlfreind in the parking lot and then scared the shit out of her. I knew every inch of Stanley Park. Knew all the best parking spots, including the off road spots. Anyway, gotta stop telling old stories........... I wanna get back my youth, Bob Sagget! |
focus on your own driving, keep your eyes on the road, avoid people like this. /thread / complaining /bitchiness /everything. |
The main way I remember to turn my lights on is when I can't read my dash because it's too dark. But most new cars have the dash lit up all the time now. Auto headlights is such a great thing. Should be standard on all newer model cars. |
you have to be fucking retarded to not turn your lights on. i've never forgot to turn my lights on. |
