Due to my astigmatism, I try not to ride beyond dusk. When it's dark, my astigmatism kills so I try not to stay out late.

Having said that, I usually ride with these:
Front - MEC Quattro USB White LED Front Light - Mountain Equipment Co-op. Free Shipping Available
Rear - MEC Saturn Rear LED Bicycle Light

Both have served me well and are bright on lit roads. I'd reckon to say that these are more suited for others on the road so you can be seen, as opposed to being able to see. I road back home from last year's RS Summer Meet at the Adessa Auctions - it was pretty dark and this did not really do the job from the site of the meet, along Westminster Hwy, and No. 6 Road. But your mileage may vary.

Edit: I think the light OTG-ZR2 recently bought was pretty bad ass!

Rode 112km today

Dead tired! Inner thighs and calves cramped up during the ride.

Stanley Park
Lion's Gate
Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve
Deep Cove & back home

FYI - Don't bother going past the 9km marker on the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve unless you plan to do a lot of muddy trail riding. It sucks cause it's basically the dead end at he bottom of the hill lol

Hydration isn't just part of the equation. You need food. Bring some snacks and eat often/regularly. The cleaner the food, the better. Everybody is different but personally, if I eat half an energy bar or dried fruits/nuts or half a sandwich/wrap at the 1 hour mark, I'm good for a while.

Edit: Try a sports drink as well. I won't recommend any particular brands (everybody has a personal preference and ones that suit their personal needs) but you need to replenish the electrolytes you lost while riding. Hitting 112km in your first season is pretty impressive. Most people don't get there in their first season!

Just finished my longest ride to date. 102km. Got a flat tire on Central Valley Greenway near Costco

Finally cracked the 3 minute mark on Prospect point climb @ 3:57

Been thinking to ride to Tswassen, as I heard it's a pretty good ride and lots of farm lands. Correct me, if I am wrong.

Just wondering...where did you start? what route did you take?

Finally got a road clipless pedals and wow do they make a difference. Entry is much different from my old eggbeaters setup but I do love the positive engagement. Planning to go for a longer ride when I have a day off from work. Nothing spectacular achieved on the ride but very pleased with the new setup.

Definitely a nice ride. Farmland all the way out there. I started around Scott Rd and 96th. Just went down to River Rd and followed it straight to the ferry terminal.

woot beasted the prospect point hill today. So I was just coasting and enjoying the view when some chick blasted past me before the climb and looked back at me all srs like. So I followed suit and dropped her and some equally srs looking dude a few seconds into the climb. Passed them with a smile and a friendly "morning!" of course

Edit:normally I'm not a douchey rider but I can't stand staredowns lol

Also, for the guys just getting into riding, I recommend the ride to deep cove as a 'primer' of sorts to attacking hills and efficient gearing. Mostly flat until the last bit.
