And it's not cheap.
1 bike - $300
2 bikes - $440
3 bikes - $550

I never use roof racks because of the fear of ...

If you use bike rack, your license plate can never be obstructed. There are dick cops who will pull you over and give you a ticket.

I've been looking at two bikes one from Bike Doctor $519.99

Norco VFR 4

other from Sport Junkie $639.99

Rocky Mountain RC

I'm kinda torn, I do like the Rocky Mountain bike, since it does have a more touring frame and is up gradable, but the Norco is cheaper and functions well for city commuting in the summer. Any feedback?

What did you decide on? I'm considering the VFR 4 as well.

Looking to by a hard tail somewhere in the 700-1k range.

I think the components look alright but I'm not well versed in mtb. Any opinions?

Looks alright. Have you ridden a 29'er before though? Personally for me, I find them a bit big, even in a small frame size.

I have and it isn't so bad but i think 650b is more my style. I'm about 5'9, 30inch inseam.

Do you think the asking price is decent? (I will be negotiating for lower).

I would search out a 27.5" over the 29".
See below for my reason.

I agree.
In a small frame size the wheels interfere with your pedalling. Plus it looks odd as the overall look of the bike is off based on the huge wheels.

I just built a Transition Patrol in 650b and it's perfect. The medium frame is good for a short inseam, even with a dropper post. Coming from 22 years of DH on a 26" bike, the jump to 27.5" was a really positive change.

Thanks for the input. I'll keep searching. That bike looked like a good deal though. I don't want to have to buy another set of 650b to swap on. I don't DH or anything, just simple trail riding and some single track stuff.

From my research online, it seems that most if not all medium frame bikes come with 29ers? Would that be correct in your experiences?

Off-Topic: hypa posting in VLS. Again.

lbs didn't install oem fenders well, heard clicking on first ride briefly then it went away...today after a few rides I find the bottom bracket bolt popped out and rubbing the tire

is it the equivalent to oil changes where they give it to the junior techs to do?

BlackV62K2 05-20-2018 10:55 AM

Decided on Shimano RP9s. Went way over budget.....

Great shoes!

They also have a wide version if it's not too late for you to exchange them.

ewong 05-20-2018 12:41 PM

I ended up getting the Rocky Mountain because it was only $40 more and it had road tires.

Btw what's the best route to go from Burrard and Pacific to Metrotown? Preferably with forgivable hills

twitchyzero 05-20-2018 06:10 PM

central valley then bc parkway is the obvious one

This is your best bet. I used to take that same route when I did the ride out from Burnaby > UBC > Jericho > Kits and back home. Traffic around Kits kind of sucks, but it's a pretty nice ride when the weather is good

red kryptonite 05-22-2018 02:36 PM

anyone in the market for a bike?
