I hope your joking about the 4/5 km/h(1-2 even seems far fetched).... That would bring me right up into the zone where the elderly no long pass me. This sounds almost as good as the 30hp CAI! lol

I've switched out to no-name made in China ceramic Hollowtech II bb's on my mountain bike and it is smooooth, and going on quite strong. And under $50 to boot

Is your bb30 bearings that press directly into the frame? Or is it a thread on bb cup? I'm not too well versed in all the road bike standards, but I thought bb30 only presses directly into the frame. If it presses in, its worthwhile to have your shop check that the bb shell is perfectly round. I've heard of shells being out of spec by just a little bit, and when the round bearings get pressed in it can get deformed just enough to cause premature bearing wear.

When comparing 35c cross tires @ 85psi to 23c road tires @ 110 psi.. I did pick up a few km/h

From cyclecross tires I believe it. But now you have my hopes all up that whenever I switch out from these Zaffiro's i'll be keeping up with the all stars. haha. Must keep riding

Check your stats regularly when you switch over. Do a before/after comparison. You will likely pick up some speed, even if it means 1 or 2km/h

That's like going from 4x4 mudders to R-comps, haha.

My average speeds can easily vary 1-2km/h depending on how I'm feeling on any given day. At the recreational level, there are far too many variables which can cause a 1-2km/h fluctuation outside of tire choice

There are two variants, if I recall correctly. PressFit30 and BB30. PF30 is the one where you press directly into the frame (as the name suggests.) I have only, so far, heard of the creaking from true BB30 but mainly due to use and exposure to the elements.

Did some quick research. BB30 and PF30 both press directly into the frame, no threads here. Both the inner diameters are 30mm which is obvious, cranks are interchangeable between these 2 standards. The BB30 outer diameter is 42mm, the PF30 is 46mm. BB30 bearings press directly into the frame. PF30 has a plastic/nylon cup around the bearing which presses into the frame and was implemented to aid bearing installation (for frames that may be slightly out of spec) and allow frame manufacturers to be less precise

Cefiro, next time you run into a bb issue, have your shop pull the calipers out and double check the spec of your bb shell.

BB30

PF30

If/when (haha ) I build another bike, I'd like to try out Shimano's Hollowtech II crank setup. I hear they are the beezneez.

Good deal for anybody looking for a new lock (Amazon link - sorry, I can't fix the image/link)

Edit: They jacked up the price. WAS $25.
