what its 14 cents now???

dear lord

Momo251212 12-07-2009 05:18 PM

wutever. it's stupid to fill ur car with 92 or 91 in Cheveron anyway, since it's ONLY 3 CENTS cheaper than 94 AND 92 is fixed by 92 and 87. so who cares man. unless ur forced to fill up with 92 when ur driving bmw or mb. just use some common sense. there are only 2 kinds of gas in the station, 87 or 94. others are fixed by them.

oh yeah~~~ and u should know that SumAznGuy~lol

Harvey Specter 12-07-2009 05:29 PM

I put 91 in my BMW.

I usually fill up at Petro but 2 days ago I had to fill up at Chevron on Marine and they still had 92, I was actually surprised to see 92 and 94. Petro only has 91 but I think they had 94 a year ago.

silva95teg 12-07-2009 05:36 PM

Costco 91 was only 7 cents more than 87 last time i was there. The 91 there actually worked out to only 1 cent more than the regular across the street.

i guess you tuned ur ECU to run on 94?

orange7 12-08-2009 09:31 PM

meh.. 87 is good enough unless you really need that few extra hp, which is very unnoticeable.

Benz_05TSX 12-08-2009 10:32 PM

Winter Beater with 87 octane FTW~!!!!!!

Yeah you are right, 87 is good enough but only if it is the minimum your car requires. If i put 87 in my car it would ping like crazy. Also the lower the octane the easier it ignites as far as i know, so if you have a car that requires 87 and or was tuned for it you are slightly hurting performance by putting in a higher octane fuel.

Mugen EvOlutioN 12-09-2009 07:15 AM

some newer design cars will retard its timing tho so it will not pin, but you do lose power that way

Yeah you are right they will, As long as they retard enough to avoid knock then you are probably fine. In the winter it is not as bad. The other problem with running 87 in a car designed for 91 is that when the ecu retards the timing you are no longer running at the optimum and it will hurt fuel economy. So any money you save at the pump may be lost in fuel economy. Just a thought.

Mugen EvOlutioN 12-09-2009 02:51 PM

^

to be honest fuel economy was NOT noticed in my dads car

the Avalon manual states 87 is fine, but if you want max. performance add 91 octane

fuel milleage has NOT been affected after going thru many tanks of gas

silva95teg 12-09-2009 03:40 PM

If the manual states it is fine then it is a non issue. It is when the car manual says something to this effect,

"
Quote:

This vehicle is designed for and requires use of premium unleaded fuel. If 91 octane fuel [(R+M)/2 method] (96RON) is not available, gasoline as low as 87 octane [(R+M)/2method] (91RON) can be used temporarily for emergency purposes. Use of gasoline lower than 91 octane [ (R+M)/2 method] (96RON) can decrease performance during its use.
Refueling the vehicle with the correct octane fuel a couple of times will restore vehicle performance.
that i would stick to the premium.

nabs 12-09-2009 03:52 PM

the one on king george and 103? still has the 92 octane sign.

godwin 12-09-2009 06:52 PM

It is only the sticker.. the gas has been octane 91 all along.

seakrait 12-09-2009 08:42 PM

yeah, i usually use 92 as well... but i had to fill up with 91 at the chevron by the pt roberts crossing this past saturday. haven't really noticed any difference with my gti (which requires a minimum of 91)...
