Cheveron no longer 92 octane

Went to get gas today, and noticed the button on the machine read 91 octane instead of the normal 92 for supreme. Not sure when this happened, but it must be the last few days as I got gas at another Cheveron on friday and it was 92. And at 91 octane, it was still 13 cents more than 87.

Booo Cheveron.

Anyone here actually REQUIRE 92? Most cars out there use either 87 or 91.

If the difference between 91 and 92 will kill you, just top up your car with 94 at the end. Done.

SumAznGuy 12-07-2009 06:24 AM

I saw it at the Chevron on Hastings at the base of Burnaby Mountain.

SkinnyPupp 12-07-2009 06:40 AM

RabidRat 12-07-2009 08:42 AM

so anyone know if they're at least scaling the pricing to reflect this change?

Mugen EvOlutioN 12-07-2009 09:31 AM

Do you really think that?

canucksfan 12-07-2009 09:33 AM

If they did that and lowered the price for 91, then that's fine. But if they charge the same price for 91 as they did for 92 then that's total bullshit.

husky 90 ftw.

skyxx 12-07-2009 12:08 PM

Maybe cause most of their 92s are really 91s. To prevent them from being sued(If they do). They changed it to 91. Most gasoline depreciate in octane over time.

iono man, 92 -> 91 could spell the difference between bau tec and bau gai!!11!

godwin 12-07-2009 12:45 PM

You guys do know "middle grade" is just a 1:1 mix of 87+94 mixed right at the pump? Do an average, you will see 1:1 mix yields 90.5, so they actually rounded up. Just because they are now more truthful about the octane value of gas, doesn't mean it is actually any different or worse. I wouldn't be surprised if some competitors call Industry Canada on them.

There are analog dials on the side of the pump, look at it while you pump the "middle grade".. you will see both the lowest mix and the highest mix both tick over simultaneously.

I say "middle grade" because that's pretty much all gas stations in BC do it. No matter it is petrol can, chevron, esso, husky etc etc. You have lowest octane value and highest octane value and the middle grade.

Anyone noticed that 91 is now 14cents more expensive than 87? It used to be 10, then it got jacked up to 12, & now it's 14. God damn it.
