Able to wash my car at home in this weather?

I want to wash my car. Anyone recently wash their car at home and have water turn to ice on the ground?

lol wut

LiquidTurbo 12-09-2009 12:44 PM

Dumb idea. Water can pool in places you don't want it to, and then freeze. Wait till warmer weather to wash it, or if you're really concerned about keeping your car clean, then buy a winter beater.

Jayboogz 12-09-2009 12:45 PM

Or just take it to kingsway and king ed let them wash it fo u

go to those self wash/automatic washing places. dont risk cracking your water pipes!

I just re-read your thread and realized just how stupid it is.

Water freezes at 0 degrees C. I'm sure you can can put two and two together.

i would personally never take my car to a bunch of kids who wash it in 10 minutes no matter how cheap it was.

Milhouse 12-09-2009 12:59 PM

Then how do those self wash places deal with ice? How much do those places charge if you wash by yourself?

Take it to a touchless car wash at Shell or Esso. It's about $10

You can go through a touchless wash, those cost about $10 per wash. They dont do a great job, but with this weather its better than nothing

self wash = $2 to start for first 3-5 minute depending on shop, additional 3 minutes = $1

Or u can go to gas station touchless washes for <10 dollars.

IMO, is winter, just go to a touchless wash every 3 weeks to get rid of the salt residue from the roads.

Man > Ice, just fucking giver and don't worry about ice forming on the driveway.

only thing is, those touchless washes miss most of the bottom half of your car where all the salt accumulates.

wouldnt recommand with the temperature we have right now

I prefer to use a product like Optimum No Rinse available through our local sponsor Autowerkes Exclusive.

Optimum No Rinse can be used with just a bucket of water in one's garage. It is a much safer alternative then taking your car to a drive-through car wash as this won't mar your paint if used correctly.

i get to wash my car in my gf's underground parkade. Nice and warm inside

unit 12-09-2009 01:38 PM

i just cant get past the idea of rubbing your car with a product before giving it a rinse and foaming first.

Most people cant. I'm not gonna lie the first time I did it I was like "ah fuck I'm probably scratching the shit outta my car"

Know what? No scratches at all. Except the places where I started getting sloppy, but scratches were minimal, and were buffed out later on anyway

I dont see how a touchless drive through car wash would mar your paint?
It just costs more lol

http://www.shineautowash.ca/
ftw!

they have a fairly good dryer in the end so its good for these temps, just got my car washed the other day, no problems

cheap too, $7 for basic wash, $14 for the whole works with like all that foamy shit, tire shine, under carriage wash, etc

asdfpic 12-09-2009 01:46 PM

oh, the bad is that its not touchless, but no problems so far after going there a couple of times
