Lower Cars

How do people get away with driving lowered or low cars over things such as ramps and bumps without scratching their lower front ends?

This is assuming they have to drive over such ramps and bumps.

hirevtuner 12-18-2009 08:57 AM

you will have to turn your wheel either left or right and drive away from the ramp/bumps slowly

Nvasion 12-18-2009 09:00 AM

Go slowly turning the wheel to left or right but some bumps scratch the bottom on my lip pretty bad

one wheel at a time...

smokinloc 12-18-2009 09:03 AM

yah my EG is lowered about 2 1/4 i think, and my front lip scrapes wenever i have to go up ramps/steep driveways, but my exhaust/header doesnt scrape over bumps

Mugen EvOlutioN 12-18-2009 09:07 AM

most of the people when they lower their car they only lower 1"-1.5", with an aftermarket lip you can make it over with most of the speed bumps that we have in town, obviously you have to go slow. Those that are slammed with body kits really need to take speed bump more serious, go at an angle and hope for the best

i dont think scraping bumpers are most people biggest concern. the most common scrapes that happen with lowered cars are the oil pan (correct me on this...the thing on the underside) and exhaust tips...well at least those are the only things that i hear scrape on my car on speedbumps ect

LenovoTurbo 12-18-2009 09:55 AM

The problem is after the first two wheels goes over the bump the middle part of the car will scrape/bottom out so its a must to go sideways. I'm lowered 2.25"

!Tigger 12-18-2009 10:07 AM

i scrape only my h brace.

hotong 12-18-2009 10:26 AM

go on a angle.

skillznrice 12-18-2009 10:55 AM

just take things really slow over each thing that you may feel is sketchy.
my buddy bottomed out yesterday in the middle of his car...and it was that sound you get when you put your nails against a chalk board...traumatized! lol

angle the fuck out of it :D

124Y 12-18-2009 12:35 PM

The lowest part of my car is the flange between my test pipe and my cat back. I always angle it out, but I still scrape here and there =[

alex.w *// 12-18-2009 12:52 PM

i dont scrape at all but im only lowered 1.5 inches

I'm dropped 3.2 on thr front and 3 on the back, with a full lip kit. I stay away from big bumps but driving slow works

it's the price they pay for going really low, the pain of having to drive very slow over speed bumps.

TRD Rs200 12-18-2009 02:25 PM

drive slow

SpuGen 12-18-2009 04:56 PM

I'm dropped 3-ish all around with a bit of raked stance so the front is lower.

No lip/kit yet. I used to scrape everything when I was lowered MORE on stock wheels. Raised the front a quarter inch, and now I'm fine. The only problem I have is the frame rails which I scrape everytime I go to River Rock. Luckily,my car is designed in the way that my frame rails are situated quite a bit lower than everything else, which means I'll scrape the frame rails before anything else like the subframe, exhaust, diff etc.

Being slammed is fine for daily driving as long as you're a safe driver and you're aware of the roads around you. Take the precautions to do it right, and you won't have problems with scraping, rubbing, bottoming out etc.

Tips if you're LOW.
- Mad tyte drift angle when going over ramps/bumps. Make sure ONE wheel is always on the speedbump. So one corner, then the next as soon as the first comes off.
- Pot hole filled road? Don't drive on it, or adjust to avoid it. Switch lanes, or swerve around if you have to WITHIN YOUR LANE. Or just do it really fast if you have the space.
- That restaurant you're going to have a huge ramp? Don't go through it and go around for a lower entrance if you can.
- Get used to parallel parking. Because you'll find that you can't go into alot of parking lots without scraping something, and sometimes its just not worth it.
- WATCH OUT FOR YOUR PASSENGERS DOOR WHEN PARALLEL PARKING! If you're low enough, your door will dig into the curb, or worse your door will just smoke the curb. It's not fun.

Some people will say that being slammed is retarded, but those people are haters. Slammed with a nice set of flush wheels will always look hot. Just pay attention when you're driving and you'll be fine.

Lowered 30mm front and rear over here. I just go over everything at full speed like I did before, with NO scrapes.

This is exactly why you don't want to go too low. If your car's a daily driver, you just have to live with the fact you'll scrape the crap out of the bottom of your car. For many cars, even stock height is too low.

Another reason why you don't want to go too low is if it starts to dump snow like crazy like this past winter.. You won't look so cool when all 4 wheels lift off the ground as soon as you turn off a major street.

The funniest is when people scrape over speed bumps when the back seats are loaded. :lol

Downpipe used to scrape on everything. Sideways, hope for the best. Sometimes there isn't much you can do though and you just get fucked.

Driving on a bad road? I just swerved all over the place, people probably hated being behind me

Not fun at all. Happened to my car a few times already.
I'm not low enough to smoke the curb, but I was long enough that the bottom of the passenger door scrapped along the sidewalk as the door was swing open.
