To all the people who think this sobbing 18 year old was just an innocent boy who was going through a 'phase' of playing with markers: You are so ignorant it's not even funny.

We need this judge in Canada. Honorary Canadian citizen!

slammer111 12-22-2009 09:19 AM

8 years is definitely harsh imo. To be honest, I think 1 year + being forced to repaint every place he damaged would be a much more suitable punishment. Even if he stays clean throughout his entire sentence, he's going to come out with no employable skills, and will now be a burden on society.

Not sure about that particular prison, but many institutions in the States are privatized and for-profit. He could've tagged the house of someone who knows someone who is a shareholder at this place. Of course this is just speculation, so what do I know.

CallTransOpt 12-22-2009 09:24 AM

I can't really understand this so she vandalized something while under the influence, but in rehab they gave her even more of the same more powerful drugs

quasi 12-22-2009 09:48 AM

On the harsh side but I'd rather see them error on harsh then Lenient.

CallTransOpt 12-22-2009 09:51 AM

Its funny someone knew I was in training for 2 years to become an Astronaut with 200 Military Psychic's and they threw me in Rehab, Failed a impossible to fail! drug test and used Mind Control against me. I think all of my Doctors are going to jail.

this just shows how the court system is meant to protect the rich. spray paint somebody business 8 yrs in jail, kill a homeless guy ummm let give you 2 yrs less a day (don't quote me on this its just an example). the only thing the kid is going to get out of this is a rip open asshole or he will come out 8 yrs later as a hardcore criminal cause by than he has no other choices. that is if he comes out alive.

i feel sorry for the kids he is crying in court already i can't imagine what he will go through in jail

WTF are you talking about I SAID I WORKED FOR INTERPOL AND I DID

CallTransOpt 12-22-2009 10:16 AM

This is fucking stupid big deal she talked to some tank in a foreign country, how is that Illegal. And how does it justify going to Rehab.

Noir 12-22-2009 10:18 AM

I've often always wondered if petty crimes like vandalism, theft, car theft, b&e is so much more susceptible to repeat offenses is because the punishment "is" appropriate to the crime; as in the idea of small crime, small punishment does more to encourage than discourage.

oh yeah totally, i mean they must be the first two ppl to graffiti the area so they have to nip it in the bud before graffiti is everywhere...

i hope they appeal cuz that shit is crazy; but in the states its about punishment and not rehabilitation unless you're a celebrity or rich in which case you'll just get community service etc to get taught a lesson

even with giving him opportunities in the past 8 years is crazy...... and the judges remarks about being "a young man blah blah blah" he won't be when he gets out lol

instead of a chance of parole in 2 years they should have just given him a 2 year sentence with no chance of parole (and no criminal record, so he's able to get his life straight when he comes out)

the studies done on the effect of harsh punishment acting as deterance isn't conclusive. Ppl tha get deter from it are usually normal law abiding citizens who wouldn't commit the offences anyways, those that do isn't that deter. If deterance works country with capital punishment and other harsh punishments should be very safe and have low crime rate but that simply isn't the case.

Regarding petty crimes it is possible that there wasn't a harsh enough sentence there are also other possiblity such as drug addiction and simply lacking any other skills. If that is the case doing long jail sentence will do nothing to deter them from reoffending. Long sentence might deter kids doing petty crime as a sign of defiance or just for fun however the other side of the argument is that after the kid do long sentence he will come out of it with an ex con label nd possible acquiring more criminal skills and contact than he had before entering jail.

We aren't the ones justifying a harshly inequivalent sentence for some petty crimes by saying it would "set an example." The justice system is broken if it hands out unjust sentences for the sake of something so silly as "setting an example."

Judge deserves to get her shit tagged. And Bill the reporter suck and needs to get a new job.

Harvey Specter 12-22-2009 08:10 PM

I agree, the judge made an example of him because like they said in the report that area has a problem with graffiti. Honestly, I don't feel sorry for the guy. He knew what he was doing, he got caught and now he has to pay for it by serving 8 years.
