METRO VANCOUVER -- Two tonnes of the type of powerful explosive used in the World Trade Center and Oklahoma City bombings are missing, and the RCMP is investigating, Sgt. Rob Vermeulen told the Vancouver Sun.

The ammonium nitrate was shipped from Alberta to North Vancouver in fall 2009, Vermeulen said. It was then sent from North Vancouver to Surrey, where the discrepancy was noted and reported to police by Kinder Morgan.

"The amount is quite large. If you detonate 1,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate it would make for one heck of an explosion," said Andre Gerolymatos, a Simon Fraser University professor and expert on terrorism.

Vermeulen stressed that there is no evidence of theft or criminal wrongdoing at this time. He said Kinder Morgan is conducting an extensive inventory audit. tsherlock@vancouver sun.com

uh oh..... massive, govt conspiracy coming up headlines: "Al-Qaeda Hits Vancouver 2010 Olympics: Opening Ceremonies Struck, GM Place Flattened, Tens of Thousands Dead"

4,400+ lbs of explosives -_- how the hell do you lose that?

Gh0stRider 01-06-2010 06:39 PM

they were found. it was clerical error.

Gh0stRider 01-06-2010 06:40 PM

Two missing tonnes of a chemical used in the Oklahoma City and World Trade Center bombings were --NOT-- missing after all.

It's not something you want to hear less than five weeks before Vancouver welcomes the world to the 2010 Olympics, but shortly before Christmas, the RCMP were notified some ammonium nitrate was missing from a Kinder Morgan storage facility in north surrey.

Inspector Tim Shields says --as suspected-- a clerical error was made.

Shields says, 'So they are 100 per cent satisfied that there is no missing product and based on their word, we are also satisfied, but we will be meeting with the company representatives to review the documentation and the reasons for the initial discrepancy."

Officials from Kinder Morgan have not been available for comment.

hmm... so they aren't going to check to make sure... sounds like the company is like "oh shit this can look seriously bad for us, lets just pretend we found it"

exactly what i was thinking

rsx 01-06-2010 09:19 PM

Occam's razor.

Could it be:
1. An accounting error (data entry error)
2. An elaborate plot by a terrorist group to steal 2 tonnes of explosives

tiger_handheld 01-06-2010 10:13 PM

what does this mean for Olympics? maybe someone is gonna light us up =|

whats the tallest building in van? The Shangri la?
