What is your "OLYMPICS COMMUTE" plan?

Lets hear it.. especially with the downtown closures coming...

i believe the closures are 7am to 9am and then 2pm to 7pm.

Consult the map to check what streets are affected.

http://travelsmart2010.ca/

Transit has released special 6week olympics bus passes at reasonably
cheap rates also. (effective feb 8 to march 21)

ME? no more driving for at least 6 weeks to take advantage of
parknride / skytrain combo. not too thrilled about it.

btw, how's security at SCOTT RD STATION? ugh!!!!!

$_$ 01-07-2010 03:22 PM

I'm working @ the olympics as a x-ray scanner. I just learned today that I will not be working @ my home venue the Oval, so I will be traveling all over the venues. Sigh*.

nack 01-07-2010 03:25 PM

i intend on using it as a big parkour playground

=P

ToneCapone 01-07-2010 03:26 PM

Scott rd is grimey but a lot of people I know park there (it gets really full in the mornings).
I think it’s nothing to really worry about just be more concerned finding a parking spot.
Not too thrilled about taking the train either, but I got a pass that might get me through the blockades... hopefully. Then again even with that, not sure if I want to drive down there during Olympics.... It’s going to be hectic.

FN-2199 01-07-2010 03:29 PM

I'll be stuck between the Oval and the PNE...

I'll be having to travel to the PNE grounds to sell Olympic clothes for VANOC.

Commuting is going to suck. The whole street along Renfrew is closed :(

i'll stay away from d/t that's for sure

GabAlmighty 01-07-2010 03:45 PM

I go to abbotsford daily, theoretically I should be fine.

Hope my flights don't get too screwy..

That was my plan until I got a new job. Have to make it from the North Shore to Bentall 4 everyday. No idea yet what I'm gonna do once it gets crazier in feb.

How much is that 6 week bus pass?

EDIT: just found them. Two zone pass is $149. No real savings from the monthly $99 bus pass.

tiger_handheld 01-07-2010 03:51 PM

anyone have a link to the road closure map?

Chinese New Year during the Olymipics....smaller route this year. All the road closures. This is going to be quite interesting..

spoon.ek9 01-07-2010 04:14 PM

i booked off most of the olympic period, so i get to avoid the downtown core!

still gonna suck getting around for other events though, ie chinese new years stuff in vancouver/richmond/burnaby.

hirevtuner 01-07-2010 04:23 PM

Any word on what the security procedures are for busses that pass through security zones? I'm taking the 135 downtown from Holdom, so I'll be passing through the figure skating rink and into the DT core scurity zone. Anyone have any idea?

I live in Coquitlam, work downtown.

I take the skytrain.

I plan to be late for work every day ( and I won't be making the time up either ).

Going home is going to blow :(

tiger_handheld 01-07-2010 06:01 PM

Heard Renfrew is blocked off only after Hastings. So you could still take #16 bus to get to PNE. ;)

CP.AR 01-07-2010 09:47 PM

I got no school - I will most likely be sleeping

As per, http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-col...-whistler.html

Renfrew Street, between Hastings Street and McGill Street, from Jan. 24 to March 1.

Have fun GS Super. ;)
