Vansterdam 01-07-2010 07:43 PM

i always cross that crosswalk and i swear most of hte times peopel dont even bother to slow the fuck down since they only notice that stoplight thats on 33rd and vic, after that they just speed up again

JSALES 01-07-2010 07:44 PM

Vansterdam 01-07-2010 07:45 PM

marc0lishuz 01-07-2010 07:49 PM

I agree, drivers need to be more mindful of pedestrians.

But pedestrians have to be smarter too. Wear bright clothes and make eye contact with the driver before crossing.

EmOne 01-07-2010 07:49 PM

that crosswalk is pretty dangerous, all these old c-lai walking to the chinese restaurant and Teng's market

Vansterdam 01-07-2010 07:55 PM

^ or when i gotta get to dairy queen to get my 2 for $4.20 deal

cococly 01-07-2010 08:03 PM

Pretty close to where I live;

I think that's the only pedstrian crosswalk[others are controlled by traffic lights] on victoria Street South of Kingsway.

That crosswalk can be quite hard to see, since the signs are located very far apart, plus it's on a crest.
I think they should add a traffic light there.

AccordCouped 01-07-2010 08:19 PM

saw this too looked pretty facked up!!! blood was still on the side of the car

supers7n 01-07-2010 08:24 PM

this is in my neighbourhood too, drove by it and saw blood on a white 240sx or celica, couldnt really see what happend though..

wonder if they'll add those pedstrian lights like they have on minoru blvd, by richmond centre

Vansterdam 01-07-2010 08:26 PM

we should all write a petition to our local MLA and get a bunch of signatures from the local neighborhood, anyone care to start it ?

Razor Ramon HG 01-07-2010 08:29 PM

Now I know which crosswalk you're talking about. Shit, I remember last time I walked there, none of the cars would stop either. Definitely dangerous :S

I walk that intersection about once every two weeks, and drive by almost everyday.

I'd put good money that it's not the pedestrians fault and it's most likely the driver. I see near misses at this spot at least once a month.

I've seen people just blow by that area all the time. One time I stopped for these two kids to cross the road (they were like approx 10 yrs old). but the guy on the far side was speeding and almost ran them over.

FUCK people need to learn to watch for crosswalks.

True, but for some of the seniors and children that use this crosswalk. They see cars stop on both sides, so they think it's safe to cross, but one guy drives by later on speeding as the pedestrians are both arleady half way through the intersection and thats how it happens.

skyxx 01-07-2010 08:39 PM

So that's what was going on. I drove by the scene, didn't see anything at the moment but i saw 3 cop cars.

Harvey Specter 01-07-2010 08:41 PM

Hopefully the person who got hit didn't die.

AND when they cross marked crossings, they don't press the damn button to make the lights flash

Yeah, I think they should add those blinking orange lights for the pedestrians to press when they want to cross (if they're not already there). Those pedestrian crosswalks with only the white stripes on the road are far too dangerous. I've seen alot of the near lane cars yielding to pedestrians but puts the pedestrian in the far lane car's blind spot and the far lane car just blows right past the crosswalk.

Greenstoner 01-07-2010 09:14 PM

i hope the pedestrian wasnt on his/her cell phone while walking

Cereal Killer 01-07-2010 09:16 PM

I have yet to experience a close call at that crosswalk *knock on wood* but it's definitely a bitch to cross during the day with the constant stream of traffic.

jeff_alexander 01-07-2010 09:18 PM

I believe it should be made mandatory for pedestrians at night to wear high visiblity vests with blinking amber lights from dusk till dawn. Anyone caught without will be prompty run down and backed over.

Also sensors should be embedded into the ground that will give pedestrians jaywalking an excruciating painful electrical shock from their high visibility vest if they went even as far as 1 inch off the cross walk.

Jaywalks who are caught should all be made to wear rainbow arm bands and sent off to labour camps and arctic explorations with minimal clothing.
