Everyone knos its up to the store's discretion to comply to return policy. If in fact this man broke his wii, then well too bad for him.

If its a poorly trained CSR or entertainment rep, well its going to be a tough call, but in most cases, the customer will never win with these sales driven big box stores.

regardless, Some mall security do have the cuffs, this is based on their rank and how well trained they are. What this means is if the mall cop is on entry position, he does NOT have the authority to take the man down like he did in the video.

I have seen many instances like this working retail before. I rmb working next door at FutureShop many years ago and there will always be this one guy that will buy and return a few days later. Its very difficult for the store to break policy and deny this guy his return, so we just refuse to service him. Finally, he decided to let it loose on the store's GM. Security came, talked with him about abusing store policy and now he is banned from teh store.

LOL...dumbass motherfucker...

Didn't look like security should be in any trouble. The idiot resisted like crazy and it's not like they knocked him the fuck out...like many of us probably would've liked to.

sound right, at the end of the video you can hear another guy saying get down which was probably the cops that arrived.

The law is this:

In B.C. you need a security license to do a security job. Bouncers, mall rentacops, those ancient guys in banks, they all have security licenses.

In order to use cuffs over the course of your job you have to be:

1) Licensed to use them. (Its a separate Provincial training course + certification)
2) Authorized by your employer to use them. You can't just show up at the bank you work at and say "Fuck yeah! I'm going to be like Seth Rogen in Observe and Report!". You put the deposit envelope in the ATM the wrong way and you're going DOWN fucker!

I think the person doing the "takedown" may have been a police officer because a security guard or a loss prevention officer probably wouldn't be dressed like that.

Thank you! finally someone on my side. Besides, these stores outsources their security to Paladin, Genesis, and etc etc. None of them have dark uniforms.

Security arn't allowed to carry handcuffs. Like everyone else, they are only to enforce citizen arrest but they can't use handcuffs or any other enforcement tools. People think security has at least some level of enforcement power but they dont!

it wasn't a damn rcmp officer

simply put, look at his waist. rcmp officers have radios, cuffs, tasers, guns, batons, pepperspray, etc.
this guy has nothing (or nothing close to what a cop would have on him)

when was the last time you've seen a cop? those things are usually covered over by their winter jacket except for the gun.

As of Sept. 1 licenced security officers in B.C. will be permitted to carry and use handcuffs for the first time in decades. They must, however, first complete the JIBC’s new Advanced Security Training (AST) course, which is an amalgam of the JIBC’s old BST2 control tactics course and a course on handcuffing techniques. This training must be delivered by one or more of a relatively small group of qualified instructors who have been identified for the purpose by the police academy.
