Camera Strap Recomendations
 

I am trying to replace my stock Canon camera strap. I've been doing some research, and found a few, but would like to here some recommendations. I am looking for a camera strap that is comfortable, black, discrete, durable, and may or may not have clips. It is to be worn on around the neck, and it used for hiking, traveling, and walking around.

The ones I've been looking at are the Crumpler Industry Disgrace, upStrap (expensive), Kata KT A91E Reflex E. Domke Gripper, and OpTech Pro Loop.

I am not sure how neoprene holds up with moisture. Is it breathable, or would it trap moisture and become stinky?

have you considered the Blackrapid R-strap? that's the one I use and I like it a lot. http://www.blackrapid.com/product/camera-strap/rs-7/

optech proloop. SO COMFORTABLE. and pretty cheap. I'd never get anything else after using it.

they also claim that it makes the camera lighter- now it's probably the increased comfort, but with it I have no reservations carrying around my 50D+grip+tele.

i prefer to wear my camera around my neck instead of being slung. I remember checking out your system at the photowalk.

Is the optech proloop big a bulky? How does it stand up to moisture absorption? How much did you pay for it, or did you order it online?

I would recommend the Crumpler or the KATA.

a friend of mine has the crumpler, i tried it out, its quite comfortable

do you guys carry the kata @ beau's? if so how much is it? Thinking about it now, the quick disconnects do come in handy when using a tripod. Does that pocket thing come off too?

the Crumpler is nice, but I guess this is coming down to the cost point. Which one is more affordable as well.

Doing a lot of research on which strap is good, but I guess any strap is better than the OEM Canon one.

I have the Crumpler and it's super comfy because it spreads out the weight quite evenly.

Cons:
-strap is kinda big
-the Crumpler logo is too big and obvious (I have the black strap with the logo being white)

No, I don't stock the KATA, but I bought one and I haven't used it at all. I can sell you mine for $15. The two pockets on the strap do not come off. They will hold 2 CF cards easy.

+1 on the Crumpler

It's really comfy and it supports your camera w/o killing your neck. I usually carry around Canon f/2.8 70-200 + Battery grip and the strap is great with making it comfy to carry. I agree with levitron on the point that the strap is kinda big.

Though,I prefer to shoot strapless nowadays.

I just bought the crumpler strap. It definitely provides more support than the regular Canon strap and it looks a heck of a lot better, even with the logo. It is bulkier though.

To all the crumpler users: does the strap get in the way when using a tripod?

the only two i considered were the optech and the crumpler. after reading countless threads the consensus was that the optech was more comfortable.

where did you guys get your optech and how much was it?

I don't like the pockets :( but will still consider.

if you're seriously considering this google up some reviews of it. i read some with lots of pictures and direct comparison with the crumpler strap. the crumpler one does look nicer + a brand name, though.

OpTech is also a brand name.

Came fast and cheapest I've seen around. Definitely reliable.

As for moisture, I don't really notice it much, but as it's neoprene it should dry faster than the canon stock, which was junk.

To be honest I haven't tried anything else but I am so impressed and happy with the optech that I'll continue to use it.

Oh and make sure to get the 1/2" straps, as the 3/8" look flimsy :thumbsup:

i meant crumpler is more well known ... to me anyways

I have a Crumpler and its really reduced neck strain, if you hang the camera Lunchbox the strap rests on your shoulder muscles rather than pull on your neck. Compared to the stock Nikon strap its longer too. It only gets in the way on a tripod if your doing a 360 pano.

compared the BlackRapid R strap it wouldn't allow for a quick draw due to the crumpler name on the inside of the strap that acts like a grip.

Over on POTN the op tech has been getting a lot of recommendations. I like how there are many different attachments for it. For instance there a swivel hook attachments that I can attach to d-ring adapters on a backpack. I think the versatility of the strap is pretty good. But still concerned about the size of the strap.

unless you're a big fan you can skip the POTN branding and opt for the cheaper one w/o "POTN" on it

concerns about this strap you may have:
-width of the strap. some have trouble fitting it into a camera bag. same goes for the crumpler one. I have no trouble with it in my kata 3n1-20
-length of the strap. it's a bit shorter than the canon one fully extended. i just have it fully extended all the time. I'm 6 feet, and i have no problem using it across my shoulder. again, the canon one was a tad longer. in the reviews you google you can find comparisons with pictures so you know exactly.

edit: the length is no longer a concern, as I ordered the pro-loop XL which adds 6 inches to each side of the strap. order them at the same time to save shipping.

What part of the size are you worried about? The size of the strap (width) or the length of the straps?

Dragon is right the strap can be problematic but I've had no problems in my Tamrac Adventure 7 or my Nova 190AW. It's pretty flexible so if you roll it up or fold it up it can fit in tight places. The width imo really increases the comfort when it's around my neck.

Width of the strap. I am looking at (if i am getting it) getting it with the 3/8" webbing connectors. The string loops look flimsy.
