Arrow Hitch Hiking

So last night I was coming back from a restaurant in north van with my girl, so I decided to take e detour through Stanley Park to check out the Downtown skyline ( lol@richmond skyline thread), and as I was driving through the foresty part of the park I saw a couple drenched in the rain trying to hitch a ride. The car in front of me didn't even pause to stop, they looked really disappointed. So I decided to stop ( while my girl was freaking out ). Turned out to be a Belgian couple visiting Vancouver who decided to take a walk from Science World to Stanley Park, but got lost and been walking around for 6 hours in the rain in the dark. I drove 'em to the Sea Bus station downtown as they wanted to wander around there and their hotel was in North Van. Had some small talk, they turned out really nice.

Question: Would you have stopped and given them a ride?

I used to hitch hike all of the time so I know how shitty it can be. I usually pick people up and out of everyone I've only had one bad hitchhiker.

This is something where you'll have to judge a book by the cover. But even that doesn't work 100% of the time

The one and only time I gave a respectable looking stranger a short ride, she stole my debit card from my car.

I never stopped for a hitchhiker, but a guy asked me for $5 to fillup his jerry can who obviously looked like he walked a few blocks to get to the gas station i was at. And then i drove him to his Van after. I felt good about myself after that.

I figured, night, mid forest, bus is not coming, they got some shopping bags. Help em out, if they pull anything I ll kill them =).
I come from a country where giving/hitching rides is common practice. I doubt anyone would've stopped if I didn't =\

they must've been tricked by the Vancouver 2010 downtown map that claims that you can get from one end to another in 45 minutes

I saw an old couple (maybe around their 70's) hitch hiking on Cambie and 49th during the 2001 transit strike. No one was stopping for them. I didn't see any risk in giving the old couple a ride so I pulled over and helped them into my car. Dropped them off at London Drugs on Broadway. Felt pretty good after.

i'd give em directions but a ride is just a little too much for completely random strangers.

I'd drive slow with my blinkers on and have them walk behind my car as I drove back to the city.

OR: they'd get in, and I'd drive at breakneck speeds so if they tried anything stupid we'd all die by crashing into a tree.

I picked up people twice before...

first is at night like 12, guy was walking and asked where's knight st bridge... (I'm on River road between No.1 and No.2 in Richmond...) I drove him home (knigth and 41st ish), turns out he was playing basketball at thompson til it's dark and don't know how to get back...

second is one day with snow covered the ground, a old lady with luggage on westminster hwy by no.8 ish, have to walk to bus station, but that's like 1 more km away...
