Life Saver Bottle

Quote:

“The ‘Lifesaver bottles’ were tested using micro organisms in far greater numbers than could ever be found in natural water sources. This is the worse-case scenario approach recommended by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and their guidelines have been used to draw up our own protocols for testing of all Microbiological Water Purifiers. As well as using modified tap water for our tests we use samples taken from a pond or stream as our challenge test water to simulate ‘real-life’ situations as per EPA guidelines.”

Under the conditions of testing in our laboratory as shown in this report, our results show that the ‘Lifesaver Bottle’ removed all bacteria and viruses from a contaminated water source in excess of legal requirements and as such, complies with all British, US and European Drinking Water Regulations for Microbiological Reduction.

murd0c 02-04-2010 04:43 PM

here is the US site http://www.lifesaverusa.com/ you can get one from. This is honestly one of the better ideas I have seen. I'm honestly going to pick one up something will happen one day and this is the best idea I think I have seen.

asdfpic 02-04-2010 04:51 PM

this thing is intense

CP.AR 02-04-2010 04:52 PM

great invention, awesome. 600L in a little 2L (i think) bottom like that... 300 times! wow

EDIT: 6000L, that's like freaking 3000 times!!! (thanks Graeme S)

and then that Jerry can has a capacity of

Liters.

Graeme S 02-04-2010 05:34 PM

Not six hundred, man, six THOUSAND. Wish my granddad could've had one of these; his liver took a beating once when he was hiking and got beaver fever (infection due to animal urine in his drinking water--he thought it was a clean stream).

It's kinda expensive but a real lifesaver during disasters. I wonder how long is the shelf life of this bottle for the occasional hiker. The water bottle companies are not thrilled about this

AzNightmare 02-04-2010 07:27 PM

So what's the coles note for this?

Put crap into it, pump the thing a few times, get purified clean water?

EmOne 02-04-2010 08:23 PM

put urine in there and see if this thing will sterilize that?

nevertheless, great invention

tool001 02-04-2010 09:31 PM

they should promote this like that $100 laptop... buy 2 and one gets donated..

fishing666 02-04-2010 10:00 PM

so it's a super filter...filters out things at 25nm and bigger
there's a lot that u can't filter out though and can be dangerous to human health
like alcohol..ethers....acids..amides..hydrocarbons..an ything at the molecular level

it just seems like a super particulate filter which is good for short term water use but who knows what harm prolonged use can do

InvisibleSoul 02-04-2010 10:22 PM

Prices start at $149.99.

How the hell are people in Haiti going to afford these? :p

it's 15nm

hk20000 02-05-2010 01:16 AM

so if you have a flood you can't use this anyway

why? well think of the engine oil and gasoline that's going to mix into the water from flooded cars.

this idea doesn't work for emergencies. It does work for places suffering from unclean underground water which a filter is all it needs.

AVS_Racing 02-05-2010 01:33 AM

mmmm TED speakers are always so interesting. but yea pretty damn good invention, convenient as fuck too if u ever do any traveling to remote places
