Some people will find anything to fucking whine about. How many of you have ever worked on a live production before? I was involved in The Phantom many years ago, and that was an incredibly complex production. We had technical failures all the time, and people wouldn't notice. You just move on. When you have a show with thousands of pieces of equipment and miles of wiring, there's bound to be something that acts up.

When I looked at last nights show (wish I could have been there in person) I saw a show that boggles the mind in terms of how complex it was. For example, imagine how many computer controlled winches there were to move the various props, raise and lower the screens, move the performers (esp the guy floating over the wheat fields) and they all worked perfectly.

Another example, getting multiple projectors to make patterns on the floor so seamlessly. Sure, it's easy to cover the floor with leaves or other "tiled images", but it's damn hard to make the floor appear as one large single screen. Those expanding rings of water before the floor broke apart into ice is a perfect example.

I thought the show, as entertainment was excellent. Knowing what it takes behind the scenes to make it happen makes me even more proud of what they did.

I agree. I thought the opening ceremonies beat my expectations... Except for that rendition of O Canada.

^ yea

I didn't like the rendition of O Canada. They should have stuck with the original one, where everyone in the crowd could sing along. That would have been epic if 60,000 people sang O Canada together.

That's not Toskala, he never played for the Ducks until this season. That's Giguere or Bryzgalov.

That's Joey Moss who has Down’s syndrome, he works with the training staff for the Oilers.

FUCK. Thank you.

People will bitch about anything and everything. They will always think that they DESERVE the "perfect" show and whine about it once one thing is out of place... when instead, they should STFU since it's THEIR pleasure to watch the show, not the other way around.

It wasn't bad, for me... just WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too slow.

Can't believe some of the asshats writing in the Province to complain about it, though...

I'm so sick of the members of VANOC thinking they're kind of God. Who do they think they are to change our national anthem?

There's no way a non-Canadian should come here and change our song. I can't believe there is not a real outcry. We must tell VANOC they've gone too far and make them sing O Canada the way it's meant to be sung.
Um, what? Last I checked, John Furlong WAS a Canadian, born and bred.

Did I miss something in the song? Part in English, part in French... super slow, but performed amazingly...

That would be fucking gay. This is the olympics not a hockey game. The anthem was done perfectly..... Very touching

Whoever did the arrangement for O Canada needs to get that Valium IV out of his/her veins. That kid sang brilliantly though.

I'm thinking, if these people are upset about the anthem being done "differently", they must not get out much. After all, what IS the "proper" way to sing O Canada? A bunch of school kids wailing along to a piano? A big orchestra slamming it down? Mark Donnelly belting it out a capella??

thats Bryzgalov

you! 02-14-2010 05:16 PM

epic fail

Psykopathik 02-15-2010 08:34 PM

i can appreciate hard work but seriously, it felt like watching a lecture video in high school about Canadian History.

I only got emotional when the Georgia team still found the strength to come out and participate, despite their team mate's tragic death.

as far as opening ceremonies go, Vancouver dropped the ball.

Uh, the way the composer wrote it, maybe?

I still think the weirdest O Canada version I have ever heard was the drunk dude who sang it during a Canucks game somewhere in the US. It was O Tannenbaum (O Chirstmas Tree) with O canada words. It must be on You Tube somewhere. LOL.
