Canadian Made POC FAILED at the most important moment of Canadian History

is it just me ....or do u also feel embarrass being a Canadian after the failure happening during the opening of the 2010 winter Olympics, when one of the hydraulic fail to pump oil into the cylinder that controls the up and down motion of the totem poll, the result of that is ONLY 3 totum poll raised up and one didn't.....

a historic moment ruined by some Canadian Made product in front of the whole world

willystyle 02-12-2010 10:03 PM

The Quality Assurance team has much to blame as the manufacturers of those products.

Volvo-brickster 02-12-2010 10:06 PM

meh

chalk it up to murphy's law and call it a day

u would think they test those things......but knowing Canadians...they went for coffee break instead...! hahaha
and the best part was...i was telling my GF during the first time they raise the totem polls for the 1st nation ppl...i said" i wonder what their back up plans are if one were to fail " ...then it happened....:(

johny 02-12-2010 10:07 PM

Except for all the crappy Olympic merchandise being sold. The majority of it is made in, uhm, other countries...

LOL. have you looked at any of the clothing? even the native art they are selling is made over seas. none of the flags were made here either.

really? so how many mechanical failures did you observe at the beijing opening?

we fucked up. cant blame anyone else

RRxtar 02-12-2010 10:25 PM

in all honesty, it wasnt THAT big of a probem overall, the majority of the important parts of the torch eventially came up. it was just a short delay. one arm of the thing not working isnt nearly as bad as say, the lights went out, or any of that fancy rigging, or video display broke.

at the end of the day, the torch is burning, and nothing was harmed other than a short delay. i was more upset with the canadian flag getting tangled in the rope and not flying properly.

that being said, i think its fucking ugly, but thats beside the point

Hondaracer 02-12-2010 10:27 PM

I was there, i didnt even know anything had gone wrong.

someone will win a gold and no one will remember what happened, it's hardly the "most important time in canadian history" let alone the most important part of the games

Well, the hundreds of millions watching on TV knew something was wrong since the commentators didn't hide it at all... they were actually quick to tell the world about the problem.

Not that important in the grand scheme of things, but it is the culmination of the opening ceremonies...

TalonTurbo 02-12-2010 10:48 PM

yeah, someone needs to get gang-beaten for that 'technical error'.

BUT

none of this will matter when we win men's hockey! Go Team Canada!

underscore 02-12-2010 11:53 PM

onoes, something happened to break. shit happens, nothing they can do about it. and it'll all be forgotten shortly anyways.

Soundy 02-12-2010 11:59 PM

Y'know, after all the secrecy and speculation over the final torchbearer, I thought the way it was done, was damn near perfect... and that alone more than makes up for the minor technical glitches. After all, the Olympics are, ultimately, about the athletes... not the presentation, not the technology, but the people.

And good job on the Olympic flag bearers, too - was great to see Anne Murray taking part!

shawn79 02-13-2010 12:06 AM

i knew they would screw up on something for sure lol

smoothie. 02-13-2010 12:07 AM

considering they didnt test them during the dress rehearsals makes me wonder if they were tested at all right before the ceremony?

CP.AR 02-13-2010 12:09 AM

Beijing had a huge BSOD but they immediately dimmed the screens. At least they got a plan B

haha you wish.

Funny thing is during the beijing olympics i was thinking something is going to fail, forgoting, it's China on a national stage here, no matter how unreliable things are, in such an event the government would MAKE SURE nothing failed. if something were to fail, whoever is responsible would be probably killed before it ever got a chance to fail. Canada on the other hand, like someone said, probably went on coffee break and trusted everything into 'insurance' haha. Really disappointing. 10 secs into it when the 4 torch bearers were just standing there, i think to myself uh oh, maybe something malfunctioned. Then i saw that cut scene of nancy greene's face and knew something did fuk up haha.

JesseBlue 02-13-2010 01:16 AM

i blame brian williams...he shoulda just kept his mouth shut rather than saying (i'm paraphrasing here) 'i think there should be at least FIVE arms going up'..hehe...

word. they got too fancy with the torch, which is why i stick with the K.I.S.S. rule. a simple "run up the stairs and dip a candle into a vat of oil" would have worked.

all 5 torch bearers just standing there waiting for the cauldron to rise up was painful to watch on TV. i was laughing when only 4 came up since i knew these ceremonies is going to be remembered for that and a little something that happened earlier.

God i hope Canada wins hockey gold.

Nothing could ever make me embarrassed to be a Canadian.
