I hate to admit that I usually agree with you but what could you possibly have against earth hour??

My gf loves it because it means I have nothing to do but pay attention to her for an hour.

SkinnyPupp 03-08-2010 08:28 PM

Because it's stupid and pointless, and reminds us all that stupid ignorant people exist and still have a lot of power by way of marketing things like "earth hour"

Is it not supposed to be an event to raise awareness? Specifically how much energy can be saved by something as simple as turning off the lights.

SkinnyPupp 03-08-2010 08:42 PM

^^^ To what end?

ForbiddenX 03-08-2010 08:54 PM

Aren't these the people the reason why the wrestling WWF got changed to WWE?

Do I just turn off my lights or can I still use my computer?

StealthFighter 03-08-2010 10:11 PM

^yes to the WWE thing.

only thing I like about earth hour is those nice pictures showing the landmarks changing from on to off. most amazing was vegas.

check out the link!!!

earth hour fails because its been going on for a couple years now and nothing has changed. i bet u the people who do participate in earth hour will still end up leaving on the lights until the next earth hour, but they probably think they made a difference.

man you hate EVERYTHING, you must be the most cynical person on earth
how do you even live with so much hate for every little thing? you'd prbly hate me if i farted during a hurricane and you were wearing a gas mask 50 miles away

just let the tree huggers hug trees, it does makes a difference, no matter how small and insignificant

SkinnyPupp 03-09-2010 01:54 AM

Makes a difference of what?

You think we are destroying the earth by using up power? Do you think there is proof of that?

If the idea of this is to raise awareness, that is the biggest FAIL of all. All it does is raise ignorance. And in the end, allows them to have the excuse to tax the fuck out of things that cause carbon emissions, which is just bullshit.

If you want to disagree with me, fine. Don't resort to personal attacks, it just makes you look like a retard.

PiuYi 03-09-2010 02:14 AM

don't take it personally, i didnt' mean it like that at all, just noting that you fail random things alot.... but nvm

difference of less energy used

SkinnyPupp 03-09-2010 02:21 AM

I fail stuff that fails, and praise stuff that doesn't. Earth Hour and the whole global warming thing will always get a fail from me, unless it's proven to be true (or even remotely convincing, which it isn't)

This is just propaganda, and I hate seeing people buy into ignorance so much.

If this is propaganda, how does saving electricity benefit the governemnt/power supplying companies?

For instance, BC Hydro charges households based on their usage. They have a lower rate for "conservative users", which they are deemed eligible for this lower rate by keeping their power usage under X amount. Then they have a higher rate for the " regular users ", which they are given when they have their power usage over X amount.

There are numerous, and I mean NUMEROUS, previous research efforts that positively correlate our anthropogenic effects to climate change.

Now I do admit that it is CORRELATION and not causation, but when there's hundreds of sources and studies in all sorts of environmental science aspects that support this notion, it's hard NOT to agree with this relationship of how human's are affecting the planet detrimentally.

One room in my house probably uses as much power as a grow-op or most people's entire houses.

...and there's no way I'm turning any of it off.

SkinnyPupp 03-09-2010 03:44 AM

Nothing wrong with conserving power, I'm all for it. Mostly because it saves money :)

As far as any correlation the crappy studies you have read, well first of all they are mostly BS and bogus, but then you said yourself that correlation is not causation. So there goes that argument.

And as for how does BC Hydro benefit from us cutting down on our power usage? One answer is, it leaves them with a surplus that they can sell at a higher rate in the US.

Ronin 03-09-2010 03:47 AM

I'm just not interested. An hour in the dark? Sounds fucking boring.

illicitstylz 03-09-2010 04:51 AM

what are the benefits from the "propaganda" of the relationship between energy conservation and climate change?
reduced fossil fuel emissions like carpooling awareness? What else?
