UBC application question

So, here's the deal. My counselor told me not to do my supp. app. because my grades were good enough. I applied for sciences and applied sciences, and I know both of those are optional.
My average will be about 94%, if not higher. Should I be worried that I didn't do them, because I am rightfully freaking out right now!

Thanks.

nabs 03-15-2010 11:49 PM

dude, don't worry. lol.

Mentar 03-16-2010 12:04 AM

You should be fine. Although it never hurts to spend the extra few minutes to fill out the broad based admissions stuff. I thought you were required to fill that out....maybe that was just when i applied.

weitaro 03-16-2010 12:04 AM

how hard is it to do supp. app.?
if you are really worried...just do them.
with 94% average...consider yourself in.

TRDood 03-16-2010 12:10 AM

if you can manage 94% avg, i don't see how you cannot manage a half ass supp package

say "Because I can."

maxwells_hammer 03-16-2010 06:32 AM

They were due by midnight of the 15th :/
I'm going to go ask them in person and see if I can have an extra day, it's freaking me out, haha.
Yeah, and at the end of my calculus class, I have a chance to redo Math 12 in 4 weeks, should bring my average up to 96%.

SkinnyPupp 03-16-2010 09:04 AM

twitchyzero 03-16-2010 10:55 AM

94 is more than enough, i agree with the counselor.

but just to let you know high school grades aren't a good indicator of how well you'll do in undergrad.

SiRV 03-16-2010 07:23 PM

I wouldn't even bother anymore.. you should have done it anyway regardless prior to the deadline, but now that its passed, there is no point. You are pretty much set to get in anyway though so no need to freak out =)

optiblue 03-20-2010 08:56 PM

94%? Don't waste your time going into sciences!!! Applied sciences all the way since there's a job after! If you're planning to become a doctor or a dentist, you can still get in from applied sciences :P

Don't listen to this guy

SiRV 03-20-2010 10:58 PM

I would agree with optiblue, but the stats are a lot lower for engineers getting into those programs afaik

only if your forte is in math and physics and you wish to be studying 7 days a week

I learned that the hard way. My average in UBC right now isn't exactly as awesome as my high school one :(

poor_kid_lol 03-28-2010 01:44 AM

Congrats on 94% average, like people said just do it supp. app.

SkippyLang 03-28-2010 09:29 AM

Do in just in case. Won't take you that long.

buffon 03-28-2010 02:52 PM

Anyone know the UBC Engineering cut off for this year? Thanks.

twitchyzero 03-28-2010 06:48 PM

they dont release that until next year
just gauge at last year's entrance grades

kaitamasaki 04-01-2010 11:14 AM

you can get in applied science with like 82% with no supp app
why are you "freaking out?"

most high school kids think getting in university is hard
its not
its doing well after ur in thats hard

jurson 04-01-2010 04:33 PM

as a guy about to graduate from engineering, take my word, run away unless u want to take 6 courses a term and be in a room with 100 guys and approx. 10 girls if ur lucky. if you know for sure that's your life long dream is to be an engineer then sure by all means as you'll probably enjoy your time in engineering, but if you were like me and not so sure and you went into engineering cuz you think life after engineering is awesome, don't do it.

buffon 04-02-2010 10:38 AM

Lol that's how I feel too. Not really sure if I want to go into Engineering, but it's the only thing I applied for.

ethano 04-09-2010 11:06 PM

its fine..you will get in..trust me and chill

im 3rd year student @ubc

buffon 05-06-2010 08:19 PM

Wow I didn't get in Engineering with an 86 average!

Anyone know what this message is? It's on my application status.

"Based on the information you have submitted, your application for admission has been temporarily placed on hold. We will review your application again no later than the end of June. In the event that we are able to offer you admission, we will notify you immediately."

Will I get in? I got accepted to UBC Okanagan even though I didn't apply lol, not sure wtf that's all about.

jimmerz 05-07-2010 12:11 AM

means u didn't make it in the first round (or the concurrent round)
they do several reviews and take "the best choice" out of the applicants, and if they have space they look at the pile again and pick the "best choice" out of those remaining

with 86 avg u will probably be able to get into engineering, as they do take a whole bunch of ppl (and they know that a HUGE number of people drop out/kicked out after the first year)

i was in engineering before for 3 years then i got booted. lol.
