Man, this forums just full of relatively young people with biased opinions. What if you are 65~75 and still sane, still had good vision and whatnot, would you want people to fuck with your business (in this case, your right to drive)?
I'm not saying let them drive if they are dangerous, but if such extreme actions such as revoking license were to be taking place, I think a senior driving exam should be put in place.
Everyone thinks it's a good idea till they turn 65 themselves and their license is taken away.
I'm all for getting more checkups when your older though to make sure they are still ok to drive...otherwise middleaged Chinese women should be stripped of their licenses as well...same logic, they can't drive right Posted via RS Mobile
This is true. They are pretty much the only horrible drivers I encounter these days... it's getting annoying.
They should have re-testing every 4 years mandatory for everyone, regardless of age. All these assholes who bought their licenses would be screwed.
I totally agree. Re-test regardless of age. More frequently for those those who exhibits higher risk. It's more fair and everyone is on level playing field. Just cuz u'r young and have good reflexes doesnt mean u'r a good driver. A old person with slower reflexes but demonstrates good judgement is a better driver than any c-lai out there.

How I wish I can remain ignorant, why do I know so much?
I don't think they need retesting but rather a doctor's check-up document of factual health info and additional recommendations from the doctor to ICBC about the senior. The old guys know how to drive..it's just that their vision and reflexes aren't what they used to be. seniors also have a higher risk for emergency while driving like heartattack or stroke. overall, seniors just need to prove that they are healthy because they've already been tested as drivers.
I prefer a 5 year retest. How hard is it to really keep your eyes aware of the road, shoulder check every lane change, stop at all stop signs and red lights. keep pace and speed limit and most important check mirrors. A good amount of people get lazy when it comes to driving.. Hell people dont even want to walk becuase they have a car let alone do something as simple as a shoulder check.

EVeyone 60+ should have to re-do the driving exam every year or every other year. If they fail they have one more chance. If they somehow fail that as well then they will to start from the learner again.
I'm just speculating, but I would bet young people (age 16-24) probably cause more death and injury than senior citizens due to inexperience and recklessness.
You remember that Baldip guy who was drinking and driving? When was the last time you ever heard of a senior citizen causing an accident of that level? I'm not the kinda person who's like "get all old people off the road!!!!" I'm more in favor of just more testing.
For example, Motoharu Kurosawa.. he's 68, and he's a sharper driver than anyone here. I'd probably feel comfortable riding in the car with him if he was 90.

Finding archived news posts is like pulling nails but I know of two high-profile pedestrian deaths this year from elderly people running them down with their cars. January 15th I know there was one in Toronto that re-ignited this debate out here as an 80 year old driver didn't see a pedestrian and killed him.
People of all ages can make serious flaws in judgement and drive while intoxicated, but there is already legislation that deals with that. Some sort of age and/or event (collision, ticket, etc) triggered required retesting would be beneficial to ensure that the overall level of driving quality is maintained.

ive always said old people shouldn't be allowed do drive, past 70-75 there licences should be taken away.
That's bullshit.
Every senior deserves the right to at least prove they are capable of driving and thus deserve the privilege of doing so.
I happen to have a couple of senior customers both 85 and both good safe drivers. Hell one of them is a veteran jet fighter pilot and still holds his license to do so. He still fly's regularly across North America in airshows.
Now that being said I do believe senior drivers past a certain age should be subject to greater scrutiny with annual testing being performed.
Possibly written every year and road tested every two.
