Everytime I'm flying I just tell myself I'm either going to die a quick death in a crash or make it to my destination and have a good time lol

the only thing I hate is when the plane drops like 30 feet and you feel it in your stomach and you look around and it seems like no one else even ft
elt it lol

I was on a plane that split apart and went down on an island. Amazingly, I survived. Then, I got to experience time travel and other fantastic happenings.

But it's not the same. You're literally 10 km's in the air and if something goes wrong, you will fall a long, long time before your inescapable death.

Most cross-Pacific flights/long hauls to Asia do offer free-booze. So much easier to sleep with some booze in you. Gin+Tonic on a plane is so damn refreshing!

Would be hilarious if they played they show during flights,
raid anyone? haha

I've been doing the long haul flights since I was in the womb, back and forth between canada and europe (12 hour flights as well)

In my case, fear was not the problem: BOREDOM was.

Take crossword books, gameboy (or whatever the kids call it these days) magazines, etc etc to keep you occupied.

As far as 'fear' goes, I can understand. People generally fear things they do not understand. Learn more about flying and maybe it won't worry you as much. If anything does happen, there is absolutely nothing you can do. You may as well NOT worry about it, because worrying isn't going to do a damn bit of good! Find something productive to do, and you'll be fine.

Let's all try to freak the OP out.

theres really no way to say sorry for posting that....but its funny...

in all honesty....your plane isnt gonna crash....well i guess thats what they told the burnt up people in the above picture too

btw, i used to fly on Cessna Caravans....and they will make you shit bricks when you hit any turbulance...ill never fly on one again

That's cruel, man. :p

Yuffa 03-17-2010 10:36 AM

I love flying.....I love those tiny little containers our food comes in....I love how the washroom is so compact.....I love being super high.

Then again I love skydiving too....=P

TOS'd 03-17-2010 10:46 AM

^ yes!

Mmmmmm cup noodle near the end of the flight.

choda 03-17-2010 10:52 AM

I take Ativan whenever I fly, works like a charm, ask your doctor for some or PM me ;) hahahaha jk Don't PM me, I don't want points

shenmecar 03-17-2010 10:59 AM

take some sleeping pills the moment you get on the plane (before takeoff) and you'll be fine.

GabAlmighty 03-17-2010 11:09 AM

There's so many thing that could go wrong... But you'll be fine. In all honesty I felt sorta nervous when I went to Ontario in the summer (kinda weird considering I was joining flight school). Just flying little Cessna's around and throwing them around is ton's of fun. Even though it would only take the smallest mistake you plummet the few thousand feet to the ground.

You'll be fine.. So long as there isn't a hydraulic leak in the miles of hydraulic lines that the planes have.

In a few weeks I am gonna fly to Asia...which is a 12 hour flight, and I am quite nervous...although I know flying is the safest way to travel, I still have problem coping with it once I am in the air, anyone has the same problem that care to share how they overcome it?

I will be flying airbus A340-300 by the way.

Step 1:
Grow some ball hair.

Step 2:
Post this in the metro section VLS to get other pussy responses.

Step 3:
Get in the plane, sit down, shut up.

I wonder if these guys were nervous?

dachinesedude 03-17-2010 11:22 AM

flying to asia is a smooth trip, but coming back to canada tend to have major turbulence along the way....scared? see if u spot kids around, they're usually are having a time of their life, man up!

and like many mentioned, how many people die in car crashes a year compared to plane crashes?

Be careful, as altitude and cabin pressure increases the effects of alcohol!

But yeah, you should be totally fine. Cross-Pacific flights are so common, with very little (major) incidents. Focus on other things instead of focusing on your fears. Movies, in-flight entertainment, magazines, shopping catalogues, sleep, and food are all good distractions.

I may be a bit biased, since I love flying and I fly Cessnas :)

YouTube- Operation Pointblank

i'd love to see what fear you have.

underscore 03-17-2010 12:56 PM

Step 1) Bring stuff to keep yourself busy. Movies, TV shows, music.

Step 2) Don't pack your balls in your checked luggage. From the sounds of it yours are pretty small, so bring them with you on the plane and calm the fuck down.

Psh don't be a pussy, I flew from Thunder Bay to Kelowna via Winnipeg and Calgary, since WestJet doesn't have shit all for TV the only decent thing on was a Mayday marathon that was running all day. Myself and a bunch of others were watching it, the people beside me and such kept looking all panicked when a plane would explode on the show :lol You would think someone from WestJet would check and maybe filter that out, but there weren't any wWtJet crashes on (just a couple AC ones) so maybe they were being sneaky.

RenoMan 03-17-2010 04:01 PM

3 things you could do:

Grow a pair

Down a mickey or two before you head out

Smoke a blunt gotta be kush tho

skyxx 03-17-2010 04:32 PM

Get yourself super tired before the flight. Like party super hard. then drag yourself to the airport and fall asleep on the plane. How's that! Or watch movies and play some games on the airplane.

- kT 03-17-2010 04:37 PM

find something to occupy yourself
flip on a movie, and once you're in the air (especially when it's night time and dark) you'll basically just be in a more confined version of a room

don't think that you're on a plane and you'll be fine

worst come to worst, just take some sleeping pills and knock yourself out from the time you sit down to the time the plane touches down

That must depend on the person because I experienced NONE of those on my flight from YVR to LAX or from LAX to SJI.
