Clothing and Car correlation?

Can people usually tell the type of car a person drives by the type of clothes, brand names they wear?

The reason I ask this is because I was recently sifting through the "Spending money on clothes" thread and it caused me to think that maybe what people buy and wear is generally an indication of their social status and wealth.

Since we are on a car forum, I figured this would be a perfectly original and normal question to ask.

I don't think it does. Some of the most wealthy people dress quite regularly, and you would NEVER think that they are millionaires.

Meanwhile, its the guy wearing the the $500 jeans and $300 shirt that is actually poor and in debt.

It's all about remaining modest and not showing off your wealth

I think that it's a hard thing to tell.

Somebody dressed in flashy clothing may not be rich, they're just flashy and like that lifestyle, living paycheque to paycheque spending all of their money on flashy stuff.
Flashy stuff can also include a nice car, which can easily be leased or financed, not really meaning that they're "rich".

Having all of those can still keep you in debt, until your car is fully paid out, your mortgages fully paid out, and all your bills handled without a problem is when youre truly debt free.

You can tell a person's personality from their car, but not really their wealth, especially with us young guys. We try to buy the nicest cars we can with the money we have, but that doesn't necessarily mean that we have the money to maintain it.

I find that usually the poser wears flashy clothes but drives crappy car. The real multimillionaires wear subtle low profile brand name (usually way more expensive than Boysco's) clothes and drives expensive cars. The above theory exclude all "powered by mom" teenagers.

You can judge a man by the car he drives, and the clothes and shoes that he wears.

You'll see a guy driving a nice car, and when he parks and gets out of his car, what's the first thing you see?
His shoes. Then his clothes.
Sure the guy might have a nice car, but if he has raggedy ass shoes/clothes his whole image just drops.

It's the same idea of going out to a nice restaurant. Nice restaurant = nice clothes. Otherwise you'll look out of place and people notice.

Shit pic, but whatever.

This is not the right way to do it.

we have a doctor on our s2ki forum who owns a Murci. He's famous for wearing sandals and white socks.

Trying to wear high end shit and drive nice car showing off is pretty pathetic anyway, and even more so if they aren't afforded by you.

peoples clothing isn't an accurate representation of their clothing at all.... or what they drive for that matter... look at all the rich buggers driving Prius'

and with a lot of mens clothing you'd be hard pressed to discern their value, they could cost a fortune and you wouldn't be able to tell
for example these are some high quality items that feel great

but you wouldn't be able to tell that they're $1000 each (and if you say you can ur a nut)

when you have a tonne of money it gives you the freedom to buy what you like, so people who are filthy rich don't normally care about "showing off" and just buy what they like
sure they'll be presentable in the business room or at a function... but the everyday? not deliberately (for most)

at least in my experiences

I don't think how much money you make has to do with how nice clothes you wear. I think either spoiled kids or drug dealers, or poor kids working 10$/hr jobs with drug dealer/spoiled friends spend all their cash on expensive clothes because they've been brainwashed by their peers. The people who dress in modest clothes (GAP, BR, club monaco, even Walmart) could be making 50~100g's a year, and drive a Toyota and be saving up for something better in life, such as a decent house, or a boat.

I think the people who spend thousands a month on the nicest items of clothing just means that they have the need to prove to others of what they are... Unless they really are big timers with legit money (celebs, CEOs, etc.).

I think its kinda hard to tell just by the clothes they wear. I had a business law prof last year that wore the same things almost everyday, they were levis jeans that must have been 10 years old some sort of polo or t-shirt that looked like he got for free. And a raggedy old leather jacket. And yet he was a very successful lawyer. And he drove an S-class benz and he had a 5 series BMW so no you cant tell all the time. If I were to see him on the street I would never assume he had money
