No. The coin changing company charges you 11.9%. You redeem the voucher at Safeway customer service. Safeway gets paid by the coin changing company for use of their floor space.

11.9% at the Robson Safeway store anyway.

Yup. 11.9% at the Willingdon Safeway too. Used to be 9.8% when they had them in their stores a few years ago. Ah well, I still took over $100 change their. It's not worth my time to roll it myself.

BMO has coin counters at some of their locations that don't charge a fee. And you don't even need to have a BMO account

Cool. Just be aware that there are only five BMO banks with the coin counting machines. Two in north van, and one each in Richmond, port moody, and Vancouver.

Just one in Victoria as well (On Goldstream in Langford). I've got lots of change so I'll give it a try next time I am out there.

You can even take in US coins which will be accepted at par.

Looks like the closest "Coin Counter" to me is:
4TH & BALSAM - Branch with ATM
2388 WEST 4TH AVENUE

Thanks a lot! I have this huge plastic Coca-Cola bottle (about 3 feet tall) that's almost full of coins from my years of randomly dumping in loose change, never figured out what to do with it haha ... gonna check out that BMO machine in the next week or 2!
