The only thing Apple is good at is advertising. They take existing products, cripple it in some way and just put it in a white package. Their advertising department makes you want the product cuz it's hip and cool to have one.
As much as i like apple products i despise the hype built around the iPad and the continuous praise its getting. I saw a video on cnn where some fuck said that this thing might replace the desktop computer because everything is so evenly organized and right there.
Yes, I do see that this thing can be convenient for some tasks like checking posts on twitter, reading the latest news articles, or just watching things on Justin.tv but its not going to change the way I do homework online, play games, surf through porn, or do any other basic computing function.
In a few months they'll release a newer version of the iPad.. and it will have a camera. Then it will be claiming to be 'revolutionary' once again. Apple is sheer genius.
None of the people posting in this thread have even held an iPad for five minutes and already make judgment calls. You know what's as bad as Apple fanboys that buy everything Steve Jobs tells them to? People who refuse to purchase Apple products despite the fact that they're quality products simply because they're from Apple.
I've had my iPad for a few days now and I like it for what it is...a fun toy. It won't replace a computer and yes, I wish it was more MacBook than iPhone but make no mistake, it's a fun toy.
It isn't magical like that creepy dude from the video says it is but blogging, Twitter, web-browsing, displaying my photos...all work great from the iPad. It's surprisingly fast and I've had a video running on it for two and a half hours now. It isn't warm and the battery life reads 89%.
I have nothing against Apple products. That's why I was blown away by "ericthehalfbee's" stupidity, and my only response was to say WUT. I own several Apple products, and use Apple software. I buy music and tv shows on itunes. I use Safari browser occasionally. I have nothing against them as a company. (it would be totally contradictory to hate Apple and not Microsoft, for instance).
I have not passed total judgment on the ipad. It may or may not be useful TO ME. Like I said, I'm sure tablet devices have some use. Some may be useful than others. But right now, the ipad is the only one out there, so it's impossible to say how good it is.
What I DO hate though, is how Apple USERS tend to turn into sycophantic cretins who feel the need to gush on and on about how GREAT their Apple product is, and how much they LOVE Apple. Do I give a flying fuck who made my phone or my motherboard or whatever? NO. I got it because it was right for me. Do I need to tell the world how GREAT my Firefox browser is at opening web pages all the time? NO, I use it because I prefer to. Do I go on and on about what a wonderful company Logitech is, because I like the G500 mouse I bought? NO. I personally like this mouse and would recommend it if someone asked, but I am not going to bring it up over and over on Facebook or Twitter or Revscene.
But for some reason, Apple Sycophants love to do just that. And THAT is what is annoying about Apple. Not their products. Well the marketing too, but that's beside the point.

And where are these so-called Apple Sycophants in this thread? I don't recall seeing anyone fit that description.
I do see you calling anyone who buys an iPad a "fanatic", "mental case" and "fucking moron".
Hey Ronin, how does it feel to be a "fucking moron fanatic who needs to be institutionalized"?

Yes, it's a toy, a bigger iPod touch. The annoying thing is Apple would have people believe it's so much more than that. They plunked down their iWorks suite? on there and sell you a keyboard for it and now it's a productive tool.
Oh yeah, and they claim best browsing experience, yet they don't have one of the things that make websites great: Flash.

I'm not even a serious Apple fanboy. I came to Apple products about three or four years ago when I sold my Sony 650 and bought a MacBook Pro just to give them a shot...since at the time, the MBP specs were far superior to anything I could get in a Windows laptop. Originally I was going to install Windows on it through Bootcamp but after playing with OSX and seeing how simple it was and yet everything works like it's supposed to...I never bothered.
I won't buy everything that Apple comes out with but I enjoy the design philosophy and if you don't take it too seriously, pretty much everything they release is pretty near the top of it's class.
I have an iPad pretty much because...well, I didn't have to pay for it but even if I did, I probably would have. I don't think $500 is a lot to spend for a fun toy. This is a car site...people blow far more money on things that do...let's be honest...a lot less. I don't see any of you telling the folks that buy $5000 worth of wheels (that really do nothing but...look good?) that they're idiots.
...of course, I'm one of those idiots that spends a few grand on rims too but that's beside the point.
BTW: the OP was failed all those times because...I'm sure everyone has seen that picture already and it is therefore, a report.
...that and iPad jokes aren't funny anymore. The period jokes were funny for a few hours after the announcement. Even I thought the name was ridiculous...but after a month of that? Seriously? Still funny? You need to develop a better sense of humor.
How does the touch keyboard compare to, say, a netbook keyboard?
I tried a couple online typing tests with it and I can easily clear 60WPM. In comparison, I usually type at approximately 90-100WPM on a standard keyboard (if I'm actually trying...like not on RS or something). Your typing speed and accuracy improves considerably if you know the Apple on-screen keyboard shortcuts such as double-tapping spacebar for a period, space and capitalizing the next letter or holding down the comma button for apostrophe.
Originally I was going to install Windows on it through Bootcamp but after playing with OSX and seeing how simple it was and yet everything works like it's supposed to...I never bothered.
I installed VMWare Fusion with XP on my MBP because I believed like everyone else I wasn't going to be able to do a bunch of things on OSX. Well, Fusion is on the HD somewhere but I haven't touched it since I installed it.
It's 2010 not 2004 and ppl need to get over the fact that they think Apple is just marketing or expensive $3000 computers. They are cheaper and more functional than you think. Thank God for competition or else we'd all be stuck with a fatter version of Windows.
next thing u know apple will come out with a robot and it'll be called the iFag, and everyone will be all over it.

You guys also don't realize the positive impact that Apple and so called fanboys have on the industry. Look at phones prior to the iPhone. They were all mostly the same thing. After the iPhone release, every manufacturer thought basically the same thing: how can we get in on this and sell to all the people that won't buy the Apple version simply because its from Apple?
The same thing is happening with the iPad. Look at all the recent announcements of tablet based devices? Especially those based on the Android format. Basically whatever Apple does right now, the rest of the industry follows suit.
